A wish for Joy

A wish for Joy

The old man fingered the ring, then summoned the genie.

“What is thy wish?” the genie asked.

“I’ve come to realize I never gave happiness to anybody. So my wish is that for whatever time I have left, I would be a person who makes others smile when I come into a room. To be a source of happiness wherever I go. “

“Granted”

Some time later, in a hospital across town, a baby is presented to her parents.

They say “Let’s call her ... Joy ...”

91 Words. That's all it took.

Nicely done. As much poetry as prose.

Succinct.

And heartfelt.

Ideal.

A literal genie, who grants the wisher's wish to the letter, but (perhaps) not to the spirit or the intent.

Overall, the genie's version wasn't bad. The elderly man gets another chance at life, and this time will give happiness to others. Maybe this might even mitigate the major horrors in the world.

So are there plans for stories of her new life as she grows and develops, and ultimately becomes male?

A wish for Joy

It makes me wonder what he did to get such a good interpretation of his wish, unless it's not , but he did wish to bring happiness so hopefully there's some for Joy as well.

Time is the longest distance to your destination.

Perfect the way it is.

...But if you wanted to write more about Joy's life, I wouldn't object. ☺️

thanks, Jade

if my muse agrees I would enjoy doing more
