An Old Trope Revisited

I was in the change room, getting angrier by the moment. My own mother was pushing girl clothes on me! She’d dragged me into this shop, made me strip, and now had thrown skirts and dresses and girl’s underthings over the top of the door, and was demanding I put them on!

I really couldn’t believe my own mother would be doing something like this. Why would she want to turn me into a girl? Didn’t she love me just as I was? And what could I possibly do but go along with her plan?

Finally, an idea came to me, how I could end this torture.

“Mother?”

“Yes?”

“If you don’t give me back my boy clothes, I’m going to step out naked.”

“You’d get arrested!”

“Good. And once I’m in custody I’ll tell them about you trying to turn me into a girl. Who'd be in trouble then?”

“I cant believe you’d do that!”

“Try me. My boy clothes, please. Or I’m coming out.”

There was a pause.

“I mean it mom. My clothes. And there wont be any more of this trying to make me a girl. Or I call the authorities.”

“But Charline, you are a girl!”

“Not where it counts Mom. Not in my heart or mind. And call me Charles.”

Surprise!

Pretty cool turn of a trope!

Yeah I didn't expect that.

Yeah I didn't expect that. Charles seems forced femme resistant ;)

Dorothy, thank you for writing this story. It made my day a bit brighter.

Beyogi

forced Femme resistant?

I'd say so. Glad it brightened your day.

Brainy Angel...

You're the brainy Angel? I thought I was... Oh wait, I'm the smartass Angel. That's right.

Good job, Dorothy, turning that trope on its head. That was short but sweet. (kinda like me)

*hugs*

Funny, and sorta profound

Those last lines going right to heart of what gender is:

“But Charline, you are a girl!”

“Not where it counts Mom. Not in my heart or mind."

You have these two camps regarding how gender is defined; the anatomists demanding that we conform to their definition and say who we are inside is delusional and wrong, completely disregarding anything we say. And they seem to be mobilizing, codifying their stance and spreading their message: YOUR WAY DOES NOT EXIST. Hopefully the mom here won't be swayed by their big lie. So the young dude here isn't just being incorrigible here, he's fighting for survival.

Surface thoughts

Those easy, "skin deep", judgements people make are so sad, really. Especially as medical science is finally discovering that the human brain can develop in ways that are fundamentally at odds with outer appearance. Insisting everyone act exactly as their outward appearance would suggest as "appropriate!" Why not tell the migraine sufferer to just shut up and take it? After all, it doesn't show on the outside! Can't be real. All in your mind. Or, more precisely, it's all in your brain.

Just as modern science has discovered.

SuZie

skin deep?

we are much more than our outer shell, as any thinking and feeling person should be able to see.

yes, he is. As do many of us who have hearts and minds that do not conform.

I'd be happy to take the dress off his hands

Unlike Charles, I love pretty clothes....
