Chapter 5 - Chains And Flowers

Snapshot_007.jpg

This is the story of a dead girl who resurrects 80 years later, with a ghostly body and strange powers. People think she is a ghost, a hologram, a goddess or anything else, but nobody knows who she really is. Each story is told by someone who encounters her at some point.

Chapter 1 - Richard and Della see their attorney.

Richard waited all that day and evening for Framlin Fomdworthy to show up. The others in the cell block saw that Richard was extremely nervous. Big Jim spoke to Richard.

“Dick, calm down. Your attorney will look at the evidence and talk about the strategy he will use to get you acquitted. Do you trust this lawyer?”

“You’re such a glass half-full kinda chick Jenna.”
I grin and reach but look at her like that (can I have this?) about her croissant and she nods and I take it and pull a bite off with my fingers. “Yes I am and it’s milk and I come with a cinnamon roll too.”
She actually sort of snorts a little and shoves me off of her and we’re grinning at each other and it’s nice. I’m still a mess wearing a sheet and she’s a mess wearing an oversized *Hunter Valentine* Bed shirt and sweatpants but we’re like that…talking about sex and loves and serious stuff like faith and then sort of goofing off like this.
This is like it always could have been and should have been and I’m glad that I got this back.
Taylor comes in with a big tray for both of us and they smell really, really good. I look at him and he smiles. “Coconut crisp waffles and with them some lemon sauce.”
Giselle holds up one of those plastic motel/hotel coffee decanters that for some reason we have and shouts. “Lemin-sous!” followed by “I helps!”
I look at Ingrid and she looks at me and we kind of do this double mom’s thing together on the couch as my husband and our daughter serves us coconut waffles with this lovely sauce that’s hot but thinned out enough to pour lemon curd/pudding.
I love this, I love my family.

Chapter 1 - Law Enforcement At Work.

Naomi and Jim finished their lunch, and told Eve they would be back for their afternoon break. The problem with being a peace officer is, you never know when something big is going to happen. They no sooner got back in their patrol car when a call came over the radio.

“Squad 356,” the dispatcher said, with urgency in her voice.

“Squad 356, go dispatch.”

“Meet the ATF and FBI at Box 874 Pine Grove Road, cross street Birch drive.”

Marley for the Win Part 6

FLASHBACK: April 3rd 2001

“Come on here we go, another bite, yum yum yum,” Lisa May snuck the spoon into her daughter’s mouth. “Come on little Annie, you’ve got to eat these yummy carrots.” Little Annie was not amused as orange goop ran out of her mouth, she swung her little arms in anger and gave a look that could melt ice. “OK, I get it, not your favorite,” Lisa laughed.

The door opened and Tom May walked in, dirty from head to toe in coal dust, he dropped his lunch bucket on the counter and dropped heavily into a seat. “What’s for supper?” he asked.

Chapter VII - Dinner At Lisa's House.

Dinner was going to be roast beef, cooked carrots, mashed potatoes, milk for us, coffee for the adults and apple crumb cake for dessert. Lisa cut the carrots, Sharon cut the potatoes and rinsed them. Then Sharon put them in a sauce pan to boil. With the potatoes boiling, and the carrots waiting to be boiled, Ronnie's mother put the roast beef in the oven. The carrots would be heated up just shortly before the roast beef was ready.

I Can't Breathe.

Rob can't breathe and even as young as he is life seems to be closing in really hard.
Until he's given a chance, a very odd chance to get away from everything closing in an maybe find some breathing room.

Chapter 58

*Before…

“C’mon Jenna Let’s go and actually have some fun with our daughter before my buzz wears off and my meds wipe me out. I didn’t haul my butt out of the couch and into this get up for nothing okay.”
I give her a hard squeeze and take a deep breath and nod and wipe at my eyes. (Sniff.) “Yeah, I really want to do this.”
I go with her and Hunter and Angie’s joining us with Giselle after she got her into her little one piece and we start with the wading pools with the other little kids and she scream-squeals and she’s waddle running into the water and splashing and slapping the water with that bouncy thing she does with that. “Yeeee-he-he-he!”
I’m smiling and laughing because she’s such an amazing little spaz and she is having that Omigod freak-out where she’s just blown away by the coolness of being in a pool and is hitting brain overload.
And there is no way that that can’t make you smile and have that blow all the bad stuff away.
I look at Iggy and I hug her around the shoulder.
“Thanks, thanks for her and making me a mom.”

The Chief sort of wilted. “I don’t know how to say this gently. The first BabyLift flight out of Vietnam crashed. It will be on the news tonight. Already the Mayor, and worse, the Newspapers have been clamoring for their favorite Emergency Medical Technician to help. So… you’ll be packing your bags. The Mayor talked to the Governor. The Governor called the President. The President called the Pentagon. The Pentagon called the Governor’s Military office, repeatedly, then the General called your CO at Moffett Field, and then your CO called me. As of 0800 today, you have been federalized.”

*Before…

“Stephanie…..!” She cries and I cry and we glomph on each other and we get that bad we have to stop and go back in the store to use their bathroom and fix our make-up.

Crying in public and not getting shit for it, being this close with my best friend and doing this and not having the sky come falling down on me is.

Well it’s past awesome and when we get back out and ready to go I see Mom looking at me with this look like the kind that Dad gave Steven.

But it’s the that’s my girl look.

It feels so damned good and really so big…I mean this is kind of this first thing that I’ve done that is all me and that made her look at me like that.

I smile and take a breath getting into the car and I feel a little bit stronger inside for it.

There's Something Bothering Daddy

There's Something Bothering Daddy
by Barbara Lynn Terry

It all started two days after school let out for the summer. I was sitting in the kitchen, and the Braves were playing the Dodgers, or so my daddy had told me. He wanted me to watch the game with him. That was this morning. When dinner was over, my mother and sister went to do the dishes. I decided to clean the dining room. Daddy was not too happy about me doing "women's work" as he called it.

Chapter 1 - After the troopers left.

After having their tea, and socializing with the girls and staff, the troopers made their apologies, saying they needed to get these statements to the district attorney. With the twenty girls they interviewed, they got twenty eight statements, and the most damaging of all the statements is what Sharon wrote, while she was in the office.

This tale of courage, heroism, and sacrifice was written to acknowledge the recent, official repeal of an Act of Congress known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

The story is posted on this Veteran’s Day to celebrate the service and sacrifices made by any and all who have worn their nation’s uniform—and also by their families—regardless of which uniform…
