Jacinta, part 15

“Ahh!” I screech as my ‘seat’ slides across the ground, threatening to tip me on my backside with every movement it makes. “Jeez- how did I let you talk me into this again?”

“You said you wanted a Valentine’s date that was truly unique,” the young Welshman replies with an almost sadistic chuckle as he fiddles with his controls. “I guarantee you, this is something no one will have ever done before!”

“There’s a reason for that!” I complain, grimacing as I feel the cold February air blow up my extra-short skirt. “And I’m not really dressed for it either!”

Murphy's Law : Book 2 | Red Harvest

Murphy's Law
Book II: Red Harvest
By Josie

Jack Murphy once again delves into the murky underworld to find a missing girl. Armed with only his dry-wit and cynicism, he journeys to a quiet little farm town called Waterston. It’s a beautiful place, renown for its cherries and the orchards that dotted the landscape against the rolling green hills beyond. But it’s also a world where the hunter becomes the hunted and where the forces of good collide with the evil cloaked in the myth and mysticism of an ancient belief.

It’s also a place where some find the "Red Harvest sinfully wild to enjoy, while others find nothing more than disappointment and regret . . ."

Murphy's Law (Revised)

Murphy's Law
Revised

“Murphy understood the law and knew justice. He also knew that the two were often not the same. To catch the bad guy and win a confession, you had to be willing to step outside the box and take chances. That’s what made him a great cop. But that didn’t give him the right to take the law in his own hands. All he had to do was have a boy examined to confirm his true gender and now his mistake was going to cost him. Maybe his job? Maybe a demotion?

But then nothing in this case was turning out like it should. He should have seen this coming. He should have known that you can test the odds and you can test your resolve, but never pit your luck against Murphy’s Law. Because sure as the devil will get his due, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong!”

Who I Am Chapters 15-19

Miss You

I had several dreams during the night.
Not all of them were nightmares, but they came close as they all revolved around real people in my life. I couldn't recall anything that they said, but it was more of their expressions—the lifeless, dead expressions they had with every face that flashed in my head. My parents, teachers, Karen Anne, Dick, maybe even Elvis, I don’t know…but they all stood along a line that lead to a door and ultimately closed it on me.

Chapter fifty three: young love

To complete the experience they all travelled down to Lynmouth in the cliff railway, three loving couples holding hands while looking out over the estuary towards Wales. Steph shivered slightly with the memory of Milford Haven but shook it off and looked at Monika as if to say that this side was much nicer. Monika, who had walked the full Pembrokeshire coast path could very well relate to what Stephanie had said had hit her, when she saw the refineries and industrial harbour. On her many walks she had encountered more such abominations, always in the most beautiful spots.

Ashley, part 13

“Oh my god, I promised myself I wouldn’t get so emotional…” Laura sobs as she fans her thickly made-up face with her hands, or rather, the dark red fingernails on the ends of her hands. Even though we’re at school today, Laura, Suriya, Harriet, Nicole, Mia and even Megan, have opted to come to school today looking as feminine as possible, because they know that today is the one day they won’t be punished for it. This is because, apart from their exams, today is the last day that any of them will ever set foot in this school.

Chapter fifty one: explanations?

Bhavana was the last one to arrive home. She found a happy assembly of flat mates in the kitchen, but no Monika or Maureen the elder. When she asked the other three laughed happily.
“Take a careful peek in the lounge.” Steph giggled.
“What is going on?” Bhavana asked aghast.
“Just go and have a look, love.” Madelaine said with another giggle.

All three were surprised and delighted by the happy atmosphere between Maureen and Monika, but Stephanie especially. She first embraced Maureen and kissed her deeply, then she turned to Monika with a grin.
“So, what witchy things did you do for Maureen to be so happy now?”
Both Maureen and Monika Laughed.
“Well, little angel,” Monika said “I’ll leave it to Maureen to tell you.”
Stephanie looked questioning at Maureen who replied:
“Later, sweetie, later.”

At breakfast she told Maureen, that she’d leave her to work one on one with Monika, hoping that they’d get a handle on things. Maureen would have liked Stephanie to stay, but she understood, that she had other commitments, too. When she was left alone in the house, Maureen phoned her granny.
“Maureen O’Connor here.” her gran answered the phone.

Chapter forty five: The nitty gritty.

Monika went home much more relaxed this time. Maybe Maureen would really understand what she was trying to teach her and be bold enough to confront her professors with it. She remembered the story of Victor Schauberger, a simple Austrian forester, who had discovered things about water and physics, that turned scientific beliefs on their head. A physics professor from Vienna had gone to meet Schauberger and spent quite a long time with him. He was reported to have said to his Dean:
“It is just as well that I am going into retirement when this semester is over. That way I do not have to go back and tell my students, that everything I have taught them has just been proven wrong.”

Fools Rush In: The Unicorn Hero

Jimmy Warren trudged down the street with his hands forlornly thrust into his pockets. The eighth grader was lost in his muddled thoughts of only seven months more of middle school hell. Then there would be four years of high school hell. Maybe, if he survived, college would at least be tolerable. The week before Halloween chill wind whipped and swirled the brown dead leaves willi-nilli across the sidewalks and streets. As usual the backpack he carried was filled with books and weighed nearly half his scrawny seventy five pound weight. The added weight hunched his undersized four feet eight inch frame forward making it look like he was fighting hurricane force winds rather then normal fall zephers.

Unfortunately the day had been normal for the smallest boy in his class. Twice Gary Newhouse slammed him into the lockers as they passed from class to class while his stooge Will Kilmer knocked his books and notebooks from his arm immediately followed by crony Jeff Gray kicking them down the crowded hall. In phys-ed they took every opportunity to trip and jeer at him. No matter how hard he tried to avoid the six feet two inch two hundred twenty five pound fifteen year old the bully still unerringly sought him out.

Mother and Daughter, part 7

Janet fidgeted as she sat back down in her stiff, uncomfortable seat. She was immaculately dressed in a smart black skirt suit, a clean white blouse, wrinkle-free light-coloured tights and low heels that matched that her suit. Beside her, Ellie was also dressed smartly, far more smartly than she ever had been in her soft white blouse and knee-length black pencil skirt. With her toned down make-up and her blonde hair clipped back into a ponytail, she was every inch the smart young woman.

Laura, part 20

“This one’s for table six,” my colleague Saffron says to me as she places two hot cups of coffee on my tray. I take the opportunity to stealthily straighten my tight miniskirt before grabbing my tray and taking it over to the young couple at the corner table.

“Ah, thank you!” The young man says with genuine gratitude as I hand him and his girlfriend their drinks. “Can we also order a plate of chips to share, please?”

“Sure!” I enthuse. “What flavour would you like?”

“Let’s try the chilli and cheese,” the young woman says with a devilish grin.

Chapter forty one: more of the same

Just then the front door opened and they heard Bhavana read the note to Madelaine. Stephanie opened the lounge and told them that they had a very, very special guest. Both women looked into the lounge, interested who that might be. Monika, as soon as she saw Bhavana got up, looked into her eyes and said without the normal praying hands gesture:
“Namasté.”
