In truth I did wear lip protector in the cold weather so it wasn’t exactly difficult.
As I stepped out of the car Jacqui introduced me to some of the gang. ‘This is my close friend Sammy. I hope you don’t mind me bringing her along.’

She turned and looked at my face that must have been dumb struck. She was laughing.

I came into a well lit house, and everyone was up, watching a DVD. As I walked in, Mom saw the mess my tears had made of my face and makeup, and she quickly wrapped me in a hug.

"Are you all right, honey?”

“It’s been an interesting night, Mom. Very interesting.” I giggled as I tried to wipe off my makeup with some tissue.

Grandma smiled, and I knew she had been probing. I really do need to learn how to shield.

“I know that look, Mom. Emily, what happened after you left?”

I was dreading Chorus as I walked down the hall toward my last class of the day, however. Today would be the first day that the "groupies", as Ethan had started calling them, would be in the class.

I should never have gone to that godforsaken country, but I needed the money. I signed a two year contract with the National Oil Company at a salary twice what I could earn at home and found myself the only expat in a team of 12 men on a remote drilling rig miles into the desert.

Winter break. Part 1.

Fiction by Johnny Cumlately

I was due a few days holiday to be taken before the end of the year. It was already mid November and the nights had closed in. I did not want to fly off to foreign parts and the papers were full of adverts for short winter breaks. A city rather than a remote rural hotel made more sense and I chose Newcastle because I had never been there and it seemed to offer plenty to do and see even if the weather was wet and cold. I booked a good city centre hotel and decided to travel up by train.

Chapter 15

When I awoke, Park was gone. I felt a mix of emotions as I searched the house for him, realizing that he most likely was already on one of the hundreds of transport ships. A great wave of sadness washed over me, knowing that I would be alone for a long, long time. Then I felt anger, anger for him leaving and not saying goodbye.

I trembled as the fear of the unknown kept invading my mind, and a long shuddering sigh escaped my lips. I swallowed and gently wiped a tear away, a tear... for Park. I knew why he slipped away while I slumbered, his uncomfortable fear of leaving me behind... trying to say goodbye was bad enough last night, what would it have been like this morning?

I was sitting with my beautiful children one night watching TV the news was on and the major news for the day was the crazy price of fuel. I wondered why alternatives were still hard to find and inefficient.

*Molly? What’s happening with fossil fuel alternatives?* I asked into the ether.

CHAPTER 26
We were four again, on the bus, until the boys mounted a few stops later. Margot seemed slimmer, and she had bronzed almost as much as I had. Elle was simply Elle.

“How was the far South, Sophie?”

“Wonderful, Elle! The beaches, the swimming, the food, the people, it was all wonderful!”

She grinned in her way. “Did you meet anyone?”

“Oh yes! Roser, she is a lovely old lady–“

“No, you silly one! Boys! Boys in little costumes for swimming! No need to check their shoes!”

Chapter 1 - Naomi takes the girls and Renée in to town.

As Rachel and Namomi broke their embrace, Naomi told the girls that were going with her, to get ready. Connie said she still had to help wash the dishes, and make sure the kitchen and dining were clean. Then she would be ready to go. Naomi said she could wait.

"Girls, you don't ever have to feel that you are rushing me. I live here now, so I will have plenty of time to help you in what you need help with."

It was still raining heavily as Jacqui stopped he car at the bottom of our driveway. At least from here I could run to the front door without risk of being totally drenched. No lights on so mum was already in bed and sis was away from home on a college trip and it was only 10-30pm.

Chapter 27

Ugh…I hate morphine.

I know an odd thing to say really but I do. It’s a great painkiller unless one you’re allergic then you tend to hallucinate. I’ve had patients that have done that not fun. Or you can be like me and be overly sensitive to it and I press my little button and zonk…out like a light into la-la land.

But I’m not taking Oxy, or any of the other painkillers because it’s way too easy to get hooked on the and I had a close call in my opinion with Perk when I was recovering with my leg.
