I Awoke Weeping
A Sad but Hopeful Dream

by Andrea Lena Dimaggio

By a tree by a river a young lad in a dress
Sang Transgender, transgender, transgender
And I said to her, Lassie, why such a distress?
Singing Transgender, transgender, transgender
Is it sorrow or sadness? I asked as she cried
Or a feeling of being a girl deep inside?
With a nod of her poor little head, she replied
Oh, Transgender, transgender, transgender!

She patted her breast, as she sat by the stream
Singing Transgender, transgender, transgender
With a sad wistful smile on her face it did seem
Oh, Transgender, transgender, transgender
She sobbed and she sighed, and she wept one small tear
She plunged neath the water ere I could draw near
And she sank straight away as she sang without fear
Oh, Transgender, transgender, transgender

I awoke and remembered we too share that name
Transgender, transgender, transgender
And you've felt that rejection that made her exclaim
Transgender, transgender, transgender
So If you need a shoulder on which you may weep
Avail you of mine as you slumber and sleep
And then we'll find our solace in caring so deep
Transgender, transgender, transgender

Morning Mom.........

....beautiful take on the song. I remember hearing a song a long time ago and your refrain reminds me of that time. 'High lily high lily high lo'. I don't remember the name of the song but I think it was about love. The music itself was a bit sad but I was so young that I simply can't recall. Strange what triggers memories, huh? :) More to follow. I must be on the mend to be the first one to co0mment! :)

Your lil' brat Kelly

Dear sweet daughter...I'lll sing it to you now...

A song of love is a sad song, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo
A song of love is a song of woe
Don't ask me how I know
A song of love is a sad song
For I have loved and it's so
I sit at the window and watch the rain, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo
Tomorrow I'll probably love again, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo.

Listen as I sing the last line, all of my dear hearts...

You know... that would have

You know... that would have made the Mikado a touch more daring for the time. Nicely done.

Three Little Maids

RAMI

Dear Andrea:

Your ability to change lyrics, to make something meaningful here is fantastic.

On seeing this, I thought immediately of "Three Little Maids", also from the Mikado. I am sure that someone with talent like yours, which I lack, could do something wonderful.

Actually, I thought of it...

The poem was wonderful. Now be sure to call me before you go jumping into any clear cold water. I don't think I could deal with that. In the recent past I lost one friend through SBC. It still hurts.

You always move me

Andrea, you always move me to deep pondering thoughts and warm feelings with your songs and poems. I just don't comment as often as I should. Thank you for writing so well. Hugs, Wendy Marie

IT IS SO NICE,

ALISON

'to see such lovely and informed comments from sweet, intelligent people who appreciate what Andrea has done with G&S.But Andrea,I know that you could not be so old as to remember
"Hi Lilli,Hi lo so you must have looked it up.Thank you once again
for a brilliant start to my day with a beautiful piece of verse
which you seem to be able to pluck out of nowhere and to then paint
a verbal picture of a boy in a dress beside a pool.Brilliant!

Dear Gram....

I have no idea of how old the song is or even who sang it to me. I must have been a baby but I get the impression that it's much older than my twenty five years. It is a pretty song and brings back a kind of natal feeling. BTW I am feeling better and will be back on the ramble very soon.

Thank you

I didn't realize I inspired anyone. I grew up with G & S and have many of the early D'Oly Carte recordings. Martin Green was the best KoKo. There are a couple of other songs that come to mind. One is Jack Points song from The Yoeman of the Guard, and the other is the nightmare song from Iolanthe. Both were favorites of mine. One because it is so sad, and the other because it is just like dreams that I've had.

He sipped no sup, and craved no crumb and he died for the love of a lady.
