“The Best Damn Thing” Section 3: “Girlfriend”

Girlfriend

By the time I was in fifth grade home life was the equivalency of going to a liquor store: go in and get what you need, loiter for as long as the clerk can tolerate you before he shouts in a foreign language and get out.

Stealing a Twinkie or a Pepsi was optional.

“The Best Damn Thing” Section 2: “Innocence”

Innocence

The kindergarten teacher looked at me with a slight bit of concern but then her eyes sparkled as she introduced herself to my mother and myself. I didn’t think about it too much at the time as she invited me to go over to the play area in the middle of the room: model houses and kitchen play sets with small metal bowls and plastic foods; the classroom has more fake food in the refrigerator than we ever had in ours at home.

When She Stops Saying She Loves You

I will admit, next to “Mooneshadows” this is the most depressing storyline I have ever written because I all about things that in real life would probably kill me or at least find myself on suicide watch. I have the utmost respect for anyone who has gone though the situation taken by the main character.

Now, the chapter titles are, as always, based on a song title that ties the chapter’s theme with the emotion of the scenes within. And, yes, they are all by Duran Duran.

Unwritten Rules Chapter 6 “What a Wonderful World”

I used to talk for hours with Sam on the phone, usually on a cordless phone in a secluded part of the downstairs of my house as the phone’s range was very poor. I was okay with it as it was better than being tethered to a wall phone with a short leash or to a fifty-yard cord that tripped anyone up who walked into the kitchen.

When She Stops Saying She Loves You

“When She Stops Saying She Loves You“ is a combination of two stories I tried to write a long time ago but never had the subplots:

Jumper
Sun-Eyed Girl

The first one dealt with a family falling apart with the husband not sure if its really his fault or not and he goes to a violent extreme to make it all right in his mind (yes, the title is a three eyed blind reference)

I’m On the Outside: Updated

Spent some time today working on “I’m on the Outside” and had to consult the original book due to some the scenes overlapping. This book tells the story from Matt’s perspective, showing all of the details Jennifer does not know about and filling in the gaps about what happened to the four guys during the two year gap.

Working on a new idea “Stripping the Light Fantastic”

Taking notes on a reworked idea, originally entitled “Moonprysim” (yes, that is a Sailor Moon reference) about a club dancer and highs and lows of her job. It was never completed but I’m trying to see if if it would be better to change the gender of the main character and take it Down another path.

The first few blurbs of the opening:

When I was seven I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up.
I wanted to be a fire truck.

Seriously,I wanted to be a fire truck: drive around with lights and sirens with firemen to put out fires.

You Can Call Me Queen Bee Chapter 2: Lux 400 (Starter)

“Monica Anne Preston!”
Mike didn’t go with Travis and James to wherever the hell they had planned but instead he came home an hour later. I heard the truck pull into the driveway along with the slam of a single door and the violent entry he made into the house.

I had locked my door after I came home and he slammed his hand on it.
“What the hell was that for!”

It Can Only Go Up From Here

Finished the first draft of the first chapter for “It Can Only Go Up From Here” with 2362 words...yes, its about half the length of the first chapter of the first book and I may increase the chapter to kind of match up with the pacing and movement of the other book...only to counter the doldrums of James’ life to Jennifer’s.

The chapter titles are still Shania Twain songs (Thank you for releasing a new album), with the first one entitled “I’m Alright”

Back to work...

Back to work on “It Can Only Go Up From Here”. This has been difficult to work on due to the other two stories that are running in tandem with the storyline in this one and that the political climate is the same as the storyline I created over a year ago and as I write it I have to take a step back and wonder if I’m using today’s news in a story that takes place in 1997-1998.

Just gonna stop now

Having been told that my writing sucks (not from anyone here) I think I’m just going to put my tablet down and just...

I don’t know,
Breathe, maybe
Try to not want to smash my iPad into little fragments (I couldn’t do that, it’s innocent)

I’ll try to figure out what I did wrong with the story I guess.

Pondering title

I am trying to work on an idea I have had since the 1990’s that has its basis (thereabout) on an old game and a song by Demi Lavato but I didnt want to rehash the game’s plot (too much going on and legal issues) but wanted to use the feel.

Tentative titles: Lonely Nights; Give Your Heart a Break.

Plot: A pop singer and a teen meet in thier dreams. They’re not sure exactly what occurred on how they can talk with each other but they roam multiple dreams in thier attempt to stay strong. Both teens hold secrets from each other.

Leaves That Are Green Chapter 5: “Blessed”

Blessed

“How was practice?”
“We didn’t get a lot done. Too many questions.”
“Like how you survived against James?”
“That, and ‘who’s the new girl?’"
"Really?"
"It’s a small school. We take our news seriously.”
“Duly noted.”

Leaves That Are Green Chapter 2: “Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream”

Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream

I walked out the front door of Mike’s house at O’dark thirty wearing a pair of shoes that were two sizes too big along with three pairs of socks to try and ensure they would fit. Sure, I could have worn my Birkenstocks but if I was expected to do any actual running then I’d have an issue.
I walked half a block before I stopped in the middle of the road, looked back to the house, and then once again looked ahead.

Recent novel final chapter

I posted the final chapter of “Rosemary” and as much as I want to like it I feel like it’s incomplete.
Maybe I could have shown more, but there are things that the narrator just doesn’t know so she can’t connect or comment to us about it at the time

The dad doesn’t express a lot of lovey-Dovey feelings; a thing actually shared with the male side of my family-so it’s included here as well.

Unwritten Rules Chapter 5: "Once In Every Life"

Earlier in the summer our church youth group piled into two minivans and took a trip across the state line to "Wild Waters" in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. It was a water park with four twisty slides, one "deep drop" and a lazy river. It was situated on a fake hilltop near the interstate, in a place one could see from afar and scream at their parents that they MUST GO THERE NOW.

Unwritten Rules Chapter 4: "Some Days"

There were a few days that I spent with Sam at her house. She lived in a medium-sized duplex located on Fairchild Air Force Base along with her parents and her older brother, James. James was two years older than me and he was the stereotypical older brother who thought the worst about any boy dating his sister. He never actually said it, but at the times when Sam and I were sitting together in her room, he would walk by (the door was always open) and give me “the look” that says, in the flashing of a blink: “I will tolerate you being with my sister.

Unwritten Rules

First off, thank you to everyone who has read any of my book chapters
Second, I apologize that I'm slow at getting them completed
Three, if you're here then you may have read the first chapter of "Unwritten Rules", based on the screenplay “Rebekah Anne Bettencourt”.

Unwritten Rules Chapter 3: "Rise Again"

When I was a sophomore, I took Samantha to her school’s Homecoming dance. Since I did not have a car or a license at that time we tried to make it as hassle-free as we could by having everyone meet at her friend’s house. The dance was after a football game and she played the saxophone in the Medical Lake High School pep band, so I came to the game wearing slacks, buffed shoes and a dress shirt under a sweater and a light jacket.

Unwritten Rules Chapter 2: "Moonlight Shadow"

I met Sam on a Sunday morning before my sophomore year. We went to the same church and she was a friend of the other girls in the class, since they all went to the same school. She didn’t talk very much and I retrained from my usual barrage of a unique knowledge of humanities (read: useless facts) about how Jonah never really cared about anything except for what he knew, I stayed quiet. Not cool, not reserved, not “ooh, check out the mysterious guy in the corner”—because no matter what I’d say or do, the other girls in the room had known me for almost two years prior.

Unwritten Rules Chapter 1: "Driftwood"

"Welcome to Spokane International Airport…parking is restricted to the parking garage…there is no parking allowed in the loading and unloading…"
As much as that recording repeated itself, I was beginning to get extremely annoyed. Here I was, at the airport, at six-thirty in the morning, doing exactly what I said I would NEVER do: going after my lost girlfriend.
Well, she wasn’t lost...we broke up.

I Am Rosemary's Granddaughter Chapter 17: "Miss You"

I had several dreams during the night.
Not all of them were nightmares, but they came close as they all revolved around real people in my life. I couldn't recall anything that they said, but it was more of their expressions—the lifeless, dead expressions they had with every face that flashed in my head. My parents, teachers, Karen Anne, Dick, maybe even Elvis, I don’t know…but they all stood along a line that lead to a door and ultimately closed it on me.

Seventeen Months, Twenty-One Days, Five Hours, Six Minutes & Forty-Eight Seconds of a Relationship Chapter 1

“I know you’re a guidance counselor…but this isn’t exactly a ‘where do I see myself in the future and what school do I want to go with’ type of question.”
“Well, David, my position of a school counselor is to assist students in where they want to go, as you say, in the future, but it’s also a part of my job to make sure everything is okay with you here in the present.”

IARG cover issue

I'm trying to decide if I really want to use the current cover I have for "Rosemary".

Pros: It is professionally done, it looks nice...the characterizations are just. About. There.
Cons: The model for Kristi is Differnet from the character description in the text and the cover makes it look like a romance novel...which it isn't.

Would it be better to use the following picture (or one like it, of the same model) than the current version?

Jazeta Amber Daniels Chapter 4: "Age of Loneliness”

The crisis had occurred.
The young girl sat alone and pondered everything.
Had he played with her heart? Kicked it down the way and left it broken?
Had she placed him onto a pedestal left only for God, and forsaken any divine tribute?
He had not spoken to her for a few days…always finding a reason not to talk, always in the company of the vicious lion, the one she thought he had broken away from, to find his own pride. While the young man did not say anything mean, the constant ignoring was cruel in of itself.

Jazeta Amber Daniels Chapter 3: "Between Mind and Heart"

The young girl, at last, had broken through the demonic shell that held the young man’s heart. With that, she composed a song for him to always remember her by. She wrote it on the finest parchment she could find, dazzling it with multi-colored inks and unicorns that one only does when they feel they are in love:
And now I see,
What must come to be,
O’ the thoughts I have of you and me.
I long to see your face and without you here it’s a lonely place.
And what I want to say
Will go for my days.
And I want it to be for all time,

Jazeta Amber Daniels Chapter 2: "Third of Its Kind"

The young girl sat alone during the lunch hour. She didn't sit with the other students in the lunchroom. No, she walled herself in the safety of a classroom. While others were out on the field talking and running (one would not dare call it "recess" in junior high) she stayed behind to read a book.
"What are you doing in here, cow?"
She refused to look up from her reading--not wanting to give her tormentor the satisfaction.
"Are you too afraid to be with the others? Or are you afraid you’ll squash them flat?"
"I don’t weigh that much."

Jazeta Amber Daniels Chapter 1: "Prism of Life"

In 1991, a young schoolgirl was the victim of a horrendous verbal assault. It did not start “innocently” and escalate, it was always on the level of cruelty.
“Hey, cow.”
“Moo!”

The young girl was big for her age, yes, that was true. Although never self-conscious...it didn’t make her feel any better as she walked down the hallway on her second day of school.
“Are you fat and hard of hearing too?”

I Am Rosemary's Granddaughter Chapter 14 "Queen of Sorrow"

I admit, I have been updating this chapter in piece meal style.
But now...it is complete...at least for now...until the massive edits that may come down the pike occur.

So...I hope to have chapter 15 completed by next week.

And yes, Karen Anne will make an appearance once more

The following is from chapter 7 of "I'm On the Outside", a side story of "To Be a Different Someone"--essentially, the storyline fom Matthew Tracker's perspective that explains the events that Jennifer does not know about.

The musical influence if from the band Staind.

“Tyler, what are you doing?”
“I just need to hold onto someone.”
“Okay, man, sure, but I can’t breathe, so ease up a bit."

It Can Only Go Up From Here (short scene)

"I miss this. The family getting together again here again." Aunt Lydia stated as passed a bowl of dressing to Grans.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Mom snarled.
"It means I miss the family getting together-"
"We used to get together but you decided to stop it."
Aunt Lydia placed her hands on her lap, bowed her head and closed her eyes, in an attempt to stay calm.
"Rachel, this is not--"
"It's a perfect time to talk about it. Seeing the fact that we're 'all' here, right? Mom, me, you, Alan, Krystal, James--and who are you again?"

(Ive been feeling a little down this week...enough that taking a long jump from a tall condo building was on my mind a lot. But, I'm still here, but still having those feelings at time...writing helps, in short bursts...so, I have to take back my promise to not post snippets at a time...as it helps)
