The last week of the year is often given over to reflection on the year that is about to pass, so let me add my own take on 2016.

Out in the world, its been a year of tremendous change -not a lot of it positive. Trump, Brexit, the growing power of Russia, terrorism, - its been pretty hard to find a lot of good news.

Plus, this has been the year of the Celebrity Death. I honestly cant think of a year where more famous people have died, and not just b or c listers, but huge names have left us this year.

On the personal front, I have gone through a lot of upheaval myself - changing jobs, then changing locations, changing homes, for a lot of this year it seemed like trying to find some stability was beyond my reach.

But, as the year draws to a close, I can see that most of those changes actually have ended up with me being in a better position than I could have hoped. I have a decent place to live, with people who care about me, I am doing okay at the job (although at some point I will have to think about retiring) and the hours are perfect for me, in most ways, I am finishing the year much better than I started.

So I hope you understand, while a lot of people would like 2016 to die in a fire, it has had at least a few positives for me.

About The Recent Spate Of Celebrity Deaths

The media explosion of the 60s and 70s ensured that far more actors, musicians, television personalities and so on became familiar to the general public than had ever been the case before. The current frequency of celebrity deaths merely reflects the huge number of people who are associated with the modern entertainment industry.

Ban nothing. Question everything.

Glad to hear you are being positive

There is not much to cheer about at the moment.

I took the plunge and retired at the end of September. Never been busier and have not regretted it one bit.

Samantha

I have to agree with your comments.

And now Debbie Reynolds has died. Perhaps it's some comfort that one of her final remarks before she died was that she wanted to be with her daughter.
I hope so much that 2017 is a better year for all of us, including you Dorothy.
