So, astonishment of astonishments, my Son now talks to me and has opened a "Dropbox" account, and wants me to put my picies in it so that the rest of the family can see me, and I asked him if he really wanted to do that, and he said that he had seen me on his visit last summer and not found me repulsive, so I should put my photos on Dropbox. GASP !

So, he sent me a link with his pictures in it, and I saw photos of the family from 15 years ago when I was still impersonating a crabby old Electrician, and my daughter and he were in the picture and when I saw it I sobbed and sobbed, having thought that I would never see them again in this life or the next, thinking that perhaps we would be going different places perhaps. GASP!

The problem is that as you all well know, I am not a computer jockey and can not understand the devious inner workings of Dropbox because it is just so confusing to me, knowing full well that even when he was home long ago and he had a commodor 64, I did not understand that either!

So, unless one of you can help me figure out how to share my photos on Dropbox with him, I think I shall just email some to him and allow him to suss out the daemonic processes loose in the Dropbox realm. I would greatly appreciate any help that any of you can offer me.

Merry Christmas all.

Gwendolyn

Perhaps I'm being too familiar...

Andrea Lena's picture

...since apart from here I don't know you? But your news has to be one of the nicest Christmas presents I've ever received. Hope. Something I've been thinking and praying about lately and even writing about as well. Your news gives me hope of course. But I am so happy for this change of heart in your family. Maybe we'll all cry for joy and relief someday as well. Merry Christmas, dear one!

Thank you so much.

I'm feeling a bit loopy today, even more than normal!

Merry Christmas

I wish I could

Dear Gwen

Merry Christmas. That's great news from your son. I wish I could help with your request, but I had trouble posting my last story here, and could not add the graphics I wanted to, so I am no help with Dropbox.

That's terrific news. I hope there's no hidden agendas. Never heard of dropbox either.

Angharad

it's fairly easy. once you

it's fairly easy.

once you installed the dropbox utility, you have a folder on your system which gets automatically syncronized against it's counterpart on a server. subfolders can be shared with one or more dropbox users. that way, when you "drag&drop" a file into the folder, it appears on the server and all the invited users.
the files on the server can also be accessed by "secure" link. in other words, while they can be shared easily with people who don't have access to your dropbox folder, it's next to impossible that access to the files happens by accident.
still, i wouldn't share pictures that way i ain't comfortable to post publicy.

if handing pictures around in private is the objective, i would rather do so by mail attachment or direct file transfer as most instant messengers offer nowadays.

merry christmas, merry christmas indeed

Dropbox seems to be just another file storage program to me. You can upload your pics and share them via links and such, but I do not believe that you can share pics directly between accounts, so I say go ahead with the email. Good luck :)

Dropbox

I used to have a Dropbox account but gave it up. They had some serious security issues at the time. I don't know if they've been fixed or not but, either way, I never trust anything that is stored "on the cloud". Especially personal data and pics.

Let your heart decide.
