Hi again,
Well things have gone better than i hope which means that the second part of Changes, book 8 of the Gaby saga will be available over on Lulu in paper, ebook and pdf formats in the next 24 hours!

Black and blue
Great to see more of Gaby.
I just got the PDF version, but the file looks weird. It is black text on blue background, and there are places where there are empty white rectangles on the first few pages. It is still readable. It is just odd, as a blue background is not normal. I was just wondering if something went wrong in the publishing process this time.

The PDF is also very difficult to read on the kindle because of that black/blue thing.
Not the easiest download
It's just taken me half an hour to download the book and, given the hour, too late for me to read it tonight (I have a long train ride on Saturday for that pleasure).
Anyway, Lulu's e-book policy is not brilliant if you do not run a Windows PC or a current Mac OS, I use neither but have e-book viewers for every format installed, all bar one it seems.
For Changes-2, Lulu offers only the Adobe Digital Edition .ascm format download (even then it's not the actual document). Earlier downloads open happily in any PDF reader.
I have Wine installed and downloaded the Adobe program (although Adobe told me my system was incompatible - Grrrr). So I'm not defeated but it should have been much easier!
Edit - it could have been much easier, and cheaper! I found the PDF version after a search for the title. Thanks Maddy, but I won't pay for the same thing twice !!

I hate this whole DRM stuff. Adobe has never been one of my favorite companies anyway as all their stuff has more security holes than a window screen.
They also limit you to only 6 machines. Sheesh. With the rate tech changes that will happen very quickly. Now we are at the mercy as to what OS Adobe supports. Ebooks with DRM stink.

the reader sucks too as it does not allow the user to proportionately scale the document that even a standard pdf reader can do.

The bloody thing has a blue background. I suggest all those who can, buy the deadwood version and make a photo of it or something if you want to keep a copy for your private viewing pleasure.

it's possible that the printed book could have the shaded background as well.
I found a tool called PDFtotext that will make a plain text file out of the PDF. That will get rid of the blue background. Some cleanup of the text will be required after the conversion, as the header and footer of each page is captured as well as the book text.

Volume 7 was 326 pages and the ebook cost $6.93
Volume 8 parts 1&2 are 170+ pages combined and cost $13+
That's nearly 4 times the cost per page for volume 8 over volume 7.
I guess Gaby's future will remain a mystery for me.

Early release premium
Maddy said she will be releasing book 8 in a single volume later. The price for that book should be in line with the previous books. The price premium is a result of what I assume is a minimum charge by lulu for each book published, and is for us Gaby addicts that want it NOW and can't wait until she is done with the whole book.
