Or what Maddy did next!

On Monday i started with every intention of sitting down to write for the day. After the washing of course and a walk to the shops, just checking some stuff on the interweb, transferring some funds between accounts - in short any excuse not to do any writing! I finally couldn't put it off any longer at tea time, i finished the page i started on Saturday and simply stalled. At that point i gave up, it clearly wasn't meant to be, i went to the kitchen and put my pizza in the oven.

Tuesday was to be better, a mild forecast, dry and light winds, i had some metres to find & climb! Unusually i had a route kind of planned when i got up so after breakfast i didn't tarry long before setting off, the traffic throufg the city was light and i was soon inro the North Somerset countryside. The plan was to loop over the Mendip west of Cheddar, stop there for lunch before climbing the gorge and heading back to the Avon. My stomach thought otherwise, a 'need' to stop meant lunch, poached eggs on toast, was taken short of Cheeseville which saved me from chips at least!

Recharged, i dropped down to the tourist trap, buzzing at the start of the school holidays, and headed up the gorge - the first time i did it it felt like ab achievement, well i guess it still is but it doesn't rate even close to some of the climbs i did around Sheffield last month. Anyhoo, onto the top then a 'rolling' route through the knot of hills south west of Aquae Sulis before joining the bike path for the last bit back to base. I hadn't been looking for Km particularly but i found nearly 103 but more importantly, my quest for metres returned a bit over 1000 of them, that pushes my monthly total over 8000 so my Everest target will hopefully be reached on tomorrows ride.

Today, well chores this morning, laundry - check, grass cut - check. It was only the secondgrass cut since Easter so it was quite a jungle which was actually the point, the mini meadow has encouraged more insects into the garden and the longer grass is better at retaining moisture in the drier periods. But the time had come, a fresh bloom of clover etc will replace the mown over the next couple of weeks.

Still on the sunhect of gardens, we've been cropping legumes this week, the broad beans are done but there are plenty more peas coming through. We've also started cropping the first cucumbers and the first courgette will go towards Sunday's dinner! Onions, leeks, swedes and carrots are coming along nicely so we might manage a stew or two on a few weeks!

That's about it, i'll take myself for a walk later but after lunch i really will be getting on with some writing!

bye for now,
Madeline Anafrid
