I was wondering about Thongs; they seem so sexy, and even in my dotage my thought life...I want to be sexy. So I got a pack of 3. Even after letting one "settle" in, it was not fun, especially while riding a bike. Being my normal stubborn self, I did research. Female pelvises have up to 2" inches more space for Thongs, to facilitate child birth, and to make males think unseemly thoughts.

I haven't thrown them out, but it is unlikely one will ever find its way to my skinny butt again.

Naughtily.

The main purpose of the thong

is to provide the wearer with an undergarment that can't be seen through tight clothing. A lot of times that same effect can be achieved nowadays with other styles, like a suitably thin pair of boyshorts/tangas/cheekies.

Another common issue when people wear thongs: the garment isn't meant to be pulled tight. Pulling them up can cause... *chafing*.... and discomfort. Instead, they are intended to sit as loose as possible. This is an issue just as many cis women run into as transwomen, because a lot of *ahem* popular media tends to present thongs being pulled tight as possible for the titillation factor.

Don't do this.

As to what underwear you wear at what age? That's your call. Fashion and clothing is entirely a cultural thing, not a moral imperative, so wear what makes you feel good about yourself.

And look on the bright side: even if you can't wear thongs on your bottom, they're always a great call for your feet.

as for myself

as for myself, I wear them and have no problems. I haven't tried any of the specialty kind(Carmen Liu). I mostly wear sport thongs. the only actual complaint I have is, it's a challenge to find matching bras and if I want to wear nylons then I pretty much have to wear a black/white/nude garterbelt. that's it.

I'm A Princess?

Friday I was in the lab getting blood drawn at the Veterans Hospital. I am very anxious about needles. After we talked a while, the nurse said, "Oh, you are such a princess! And, you want someone to take care of you."

Hey Gwen?

Why not wear bicycling shorts, with nothing underneath, when biking? Decent shorts have a good pad in the crotch. Buy wimyn's, even if our hips aren't massive, us post-ops need the pad shaped for us.

It seems I'm riding around 90 miles/week. Here it's usually dry so few bother to ride in the rain. I don't know how really soaking rain would affect shorts selection.

Not my favorite undergarment...

Honestly--while I occasionally did wear them during a brief period in my very early 20s (back during my sloppy-casual colored-denim skinny jean years phase shortly after actualizing, in other words "transitioning", when I was dressing to blend in with other women in my age group rather than authentically to my own tastes and hadn't yet quite found my preferred "style")--thongs just aren't my thing, at all. They're probably my least favorite feminine undergarment, actually, and I neither wear them myself nor find them particularly attractive on other women.

I'm not fond of them for several reasons--including that I dislike the societal shift their rise in popularity coincided with and represents toward a raunch-culture-centric standard for what's considered sexually appealing, that they're functionally fairly pointless (might as well just go without a bottom undergarment, the way I see it, if you're going to go that way...), and as you discovered, they're rather awkward and uncomfortable (like having a permanent wedgie, haha, to be blunt--and who on earth wants that? Maybe that's my inner little self speaking, but...). Especially for me as a non-op girl, as while I had some that had a fair amount of space in the front, they were still less-than-comfy in both the back and front for obvious reasons.

But then again, I'm a bit of a weirdo who finds bloomers "sexy", and I prefer and would much rather go towards that extreme end of the spectrum, myself. I wear bikini and hi-cut panties nowadays--only fullbacks for me, as it feels weird for some reason if my butt isn't adequately covered. I'm not yet 30 but my style (for all clothing) is very much "from the last century" overall in many ways, and this is no exception I suppose. ;-P

Although I was fortunate to be able to begin to medically transition before the growth plates had completely fused, early enough that my pelvis did rotate forward to a more typical female alignment (which was slightly painful as it was happening, as I recall, and how the width compares to cis female pelvises, I dunno) and my hips developed decently well, back when I experimented with thongs I was extremely slim and hadn't fully "filled out" yet--but in any case I doubt that any/all of that has much to do with the discomfort--you probably just need a different size, but as said, even fitting their best they aren't terribly comfortable and by the very nature of their design tend to be quite snug in the front. Some women just get used to the whole feel, I suppose. I kinda started to at one point I think, but even then there were moments throughout the day when I'd suddenly become conscious of it and get squirmy. So they're not something I'd ever wear again, either--I'm with you on that.
