My thoughts on the world and what is coming about for the future! Expect at least one post from the Shady Place of my mind at least once a week or once every two weeks when I'm busy.

"Dia dhaoibh mo gcairde agus no sa Béarla - "Hello my friends!"

"Tá mé tuirseach orm mo gcairde!"; no sa Béarla - "I am tired my friends!"

But, I digress. I am here today to talk about something like I do every week so today will be topical to my current work on Scald-Crow 2: Under Pressure!. Now, for those of you in the know (as in you have read my blog) you know I'm writing this story with my girlfriend, the lovely Branwen (aka Dr. Bender). One part with working with such an amazing writer is, of course, balancing our different styles of writing.

Gráinne Róisín Ni Callaghan is not an easy character write at times. She's sarcastic and sees the world in memetic cultural references. One reason she does this is that she is terrible at social interaction so she communicates via meme centered jokes. Call her SuperGirl and she'll get the insult just as much as you calling her a "failed Hermione". Whenever I write her I essentially take a step back from my adult life and I just let my more immature side shoot from the hip. Gráinne is me, just well an angry horny teenager in the body of the girl she was meant to have.

Plus, with Obiwan Kenobi's spirit trying to solve her own murder.

Now as I write her story away from Scald-Crow 1 it's a lot more about the characters around her and how she's just surviving. Part of the opening hook of Scald-Crow is a murder and that murder needs to remain present in the plot. Even if Gráinne wanders away from that central kicker she can't run away from the countdown attached to it.

Now, this is where the "evolution" part of my blog comes into being. Each step we take down this twisting rabbit hole I am trying my best to reveal tidbits of who and what Morgan is. She's something new and something old, and part of my job on the Whately Cabal is to explain her in a way that isn't a big old lore dump. So if you can pick out the disseminating comments, bread crumbs and even more you'll be rewarded in Scald 2 pretty well. As a writer, I adore people who pull apart the mysteries of my plot and when I see theories I get all gushy about it.

Other than who she is and how she reacts I've faced one last major feat that comes to mind: controlling Scald-Crow's power creep. To state, Grainne's power level's will -never succeed- Team Kimba for now. While I have plans for her being more powerful I'd rather she be more 'strategic' than just raw power. Grainne doesn't really have any -Avatar- powers at the moment and their introduction will happen slowly over time.

If you do have questions about Grainne feel free to ask. I'm always watching the comment section!

lilith's shadow

one thing I like about Benjamin Medrano's Lilith Shadow books is that her power is to increase the power of people who trust her.

It would be nice if Grainne's power could help out sophia and her mother in some way

Sophia's family is one of the wealthiest in the Lummi Nation. Her grandfather's connection's to the business council net's him and his daughter a lot of nifty support. The problem is even for the affluent an abusive father can ruin it all. I do plan on having Grainne help her in the long run as well as Sophia assisting Grainne to overcome her own abuse.
