According to an e-mail sent out, today's service at my church is entitled "What was Sodom's real sin?"

This could be interesting ....

Love to be a fly on the wall.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at that sermon. Sounds like it might be a real blast.

I also wonder what the real sin of Gomorrah was?

LOLOL.

Bevs.

I know that one

Sodom's real sin was inhospitality, or to put it another way, unfriendliness. Sodom violated the strictures in the Bible about how one is supposed to treat guests and even strangers.

See Rule One. :)

Being friendly is a mitzvah. (A blessing.)

Inhospitality

Erin in correct. The people of S & G robbed strangers. That's inhospitable!

G/R

Hmmm?

The babes in arms robbed people? The dogs, the cats, the children, the innocents?

Rather poor response from a god to just wipe them all from the face of the Earth don't you think? Pretty lazy justice.

This God Had Previous, Don't Forget

At this point God is a long way from omniscience. He admits that he's acting on hearsay, and allows himself to be shamed into sending in the angels to see if they can't find ten righteous people in the city, in which case he'll reluctantly agree to leave it alone. Of course these angels stop at the first house they come to, which just happens to be Lot's, and never get round to carrying out their divinely appointed survey. Maybe that's just as well, since their definition of 'righteous' seems to include a guy who's willing to let a frenzied mob loose on his own daughters, and even goes out of his way to advertise the fact that they're virgins.

But then they were working for a deity who only a few short chapters earlier had thrown his toys out of the pram by exterminating almost every living thing on the planet.

Ban nothing. Question everything.

What's this god thing ...

What's this god thing that keeps popping up in blogs and stuff periodically. The tales I've heard tell, only encourage me to keep well away from it.
