"Snapshots" is the word I use to describe most of my stories. When I get it right, I can invoke a mood, or an idea, but do it in as few words as I can manage. They are not usually intended to give a lot of details (to do that would be like comparing the story to a movie rather than a snapshot), but instead force the reader to fill in some of the descriptions for themselves, individualizing the story to an extent.

Of course, sometimes, I miss the mark, and people leave comments about needing more details before the story works for them, and I'm trying to learn how to occasionally write longer pieces to help prevent those kind of situations. If I could afford it, I would love to take a writing course to help me accomplish this, but for now that's beyond my reach.

Ah, well. I hope you guys enjoy most of what I do anyway.

The best way to improve your writing,

Extravagance's picture

(which is already very good) is to simply keep writing. And listening well to constructive criticism.
This way won't cost you (a writing course might), and the rest of us get the privilege of watching you grow! = )
But as I said, your writing is very good already. Recalling some of the stories you've written makes me feel good inside. ^_^
