Its my daughter's birthday today. She turns 13!
Not for the first time, I reflect on the fact that she is a total miracle. Considering my gender issues and the reaction I had to being raped, that I managed to produce a kid ? Wouldn't want to make a bet on odds that long .....
Not only that, we almost lost her while she was still in her mother's womb - which is probably where a lot of her developmental issues happened, so throw in those odds into the mix as well ....
But despite the long odds, she's here, and still part of my life even as I transition.
I'm so grateful for that, I have no words for it.

Tell her a friend from on the internet says "Happy 13th Birthday!" She's officially a teenager now, so watch out when/if that shows up too.

Aren't kids awesome, Dot? (Not that I know personally or anything.) Happy Birthday to your daughter. I'm glad she's still in your life as you transition. Some t-folks aren't so lucky.

Happy Birthday Dorothy's daughter
I'll add my wishes for a happy birthday for your girl and second the idea that kids are wonderful. I remember when each of my two girls turned 13. My granddaughter turned 14 this year, just to let you know just how long ago I had a 13-year-old.
Everyday, I thank God for my two kids both of them. Even the one that was a problem growing up. And I thank God for my two grand-kids.
Thirteen is a pivotal year. This is the year that they begin making choices that will affect the rest of their life. I pray that God will guide your daughter in her choices and you and your ex as her parents as you guide her through the perilous teens.

It is a wonderful thing when your kids are still able to be in your life, while you are going though major things in your life. For me my 3 kids are the best things that have happened in my life.
My oldest that is in her 2nd year in college is my biggest supporter and the person that pushes me everyday during my transistion. Unlike others younger kids seem to be there for you no matter what.
All it takes is looking at them and you know that you have to do what is right for you. So you can always be there for them.
So Happy Birthday to her and best of luck thought the hardest and the fun times of having a teenager.
