So I went in to see my GP for some allergy relief (yes your teenaged son is allergic to grass not just a type of grass, all grass.) and he said he needed to get an update on all my particulars. Break here for background info.

Most Hispanic males are short. I on the other hand tipped the chart at 5’10” upper scale of height for my ethnic group. Hello all you shorties down there. That was the height on my license at sixteen that was the height I had always been right, right. Back to the doctors office.

So the nice little medical assistant with the really pretty soft blue nail polish took my vitals then weighed me (down to 228, less than the wife don’t tell her). She backed me up the height chart marked it down and asked me to step back. She had a funny look on her face and asked to check it again I said ok and after she did I asked her what’s up. She stated that I was 5’8” I said you’re wrong she said in your file it says 5’10” that’s why I checked it again. So I talked to the doc he said it happens and I said 2 inches in 26 years he shrugged.

So here I am all my life I am tall for my race and now I am just average. I feel cheated, marginalized, robbed, and short! I told my wife and she said “We are the same height when I have heels on.” I asked her why she never said anything. She stated “You were so proud of your height I didn’t want to burst your bubble.”

Grrrrrrrrrrrr has this happened to anyone else?

yes but...

At least the dresses will fit you better. Dresses and skirts for tall women are hard to come by when most are at best 5'5".

I will keep that in mind.

I will keep that in mind. Once I get my weight down a little bit more. I used to weigh 340 at my largest but an mow down to 228.

Don't worry its not lost I found all that weight. Are you sure you don't want it back?

Maybe if I can put some of it

Maybe if I can put some of it in select spots. :p

being tall

for me has been a real pain , i got enough scars on the top of my head to make me look like Frankenstein. be happy with your height and yes as we get older everyone shrinks a bit. i wish i could as i have been 6'4" tall since public school. Bad backs sore necks and the ever present bitch of a time finding clothes that fit are a constant nag to me. oh well i guess i will have to live with it. i envy you Jenn C for your heights perfect.now just imagine that your 16 and going bald!

Ouch. Sorry Rues, I just was

Ouch. Sorry Rues, I just was shocked I had lost that much height. *hugs*

being tall..

More than a pain on the head, contortions I have had to go through to get in to work locations are painful, also I'm tasked to replace ceiling fans and change light bulbs for friends and relatives. Shoveling snow is a great pain.

And then embarrassment, my wife and I lived on Guam for three years, one year the unified schools put on a Christmas presentation from all grades/all schools at Yigo Amusement Park. I was looking down to make sure that I did not step on any of the small children running around underfoot. There had been this beautiful hand painted wooden sign welcoming all the families on Guam to Yigo Amusement Park and Guam Unified Schools 1984 Christmas Padget. I never saw it until the two broken halves swung away from where I had walked through it. My wife just stepped to her left and looked like she had no idea who I was.

Oh and I don't dress, I can't look like I wish to look, never.

*hugs* Dreammaker I will

*hugs* Dreammaker I will never fit my image either. I think a lot of us have issues and challenges my biggest is I've had a really fast growing beard since age 12. I can hope one day ill get there and hope everyone who wishes will also complete the journey.

Height

All of my adult life (I am 51) I have measured 72 inches. Well, today I had a physical at my local VA clinic. I was told that I was 73 inches in height. I suspect that the person who measured me did not take into account my sneakers :)

I guess in the right heels I

I guess in the right heels I could be 5'10" again.

Imagine my greater surprise last year, when I was suddenly an inch TALLER! (5'9" now... And, no, I do NOT want to be taller!)

Annette

Apparently...

Apparently it happens. My dad served with someone - back in the Viet Nam era. He'd assumed his flight suits were shrinking in the ship's laundry... Turned out, he grew 2 inches taller.

So - yeah, we CAN grow BONE (and longer bone) past our 40s and even into our 50s... My doc said that while it's well documented that it happens, nobody's really sure why (or they'd make a mint selling the "cure" and they'd have to check some athletes for yet another performance enhancement...

Annette

Did you ask why you lost those 2 inches?

Yes most definitely did ask.

Yes most definitely did ask. He said its possible to lose inches as you grow older based on ethnicity and health issues. He also suspects my initial measurement was off and it was just never noticed until also taking into account the height I have lost for the dramatic difference.
