For everything there is a season . . . .

Blog About:

It’s been almost a month now since I posted a story or a chapter.

And you’re thinking, “yes, and?” And so you should.

But I realized that, from the time I posted the first chapter of my first story here (appropriately, July 4, 2022 — there were fireworks!) until March 4, 2023, I posted something at least once a week. Over 50 separate chapters or solos, and over 450,000 words.

That’s . . . a lotta words. I guess maybe I had a lot of stories I’d been bottling up for a few years. I wouldn’t be done with one story before another was knocking on my cranium, demanding to get out.

Well, I’ve been doing a bit of traveling, and I’ve got a bit more coming up, so I knew better than to start another series! But even solos have been slow to emerge. My promiscuous muse is off clubbing somewhere, and I haven’t felt compelled to push something out during the most recent of her (frequent!) absences. I’m noodling on some things, and playing with concepts, but no more than that.

Instead, I’ve taken some time to recharge, and allowed myself to do some binge reading on the site. And what an absolute delight that has been! I read all of the books Erisian has posted to date in her incredible Light saga, and let me tell you: If you haven’t yet, you are in for an amazing treat. A story as detailed and intricate as the best of Frank Herbert (that is, before he kinda went out of his mind), with characters who will stay with you forever.

And today, I got to binge read Rasufelle’s engaging Wednesday Knights, which gave me a fascinating look at the world of gaming, streaming, and roll-play, with characters who are believable and interesting. I had thought, wrongly, that the story was behind a paywall, but it isn’t, and it’s a great time to get caught up.

So why am I writing this blog post, other than to talk about some of the great BC writers I’ve been reading? Really, just to talk about seasons.

There’s a time to speak, and a time to refrain from speaking. Similarly, there’s a time to write, and a time to read. Turns out, what I needed right now, for a little bit, was to put down my keyboard and soak in the wonderful stories, the wisdom, the different perspectives, that our wonderful community serves up, day after day.

I’ll write more soon. Promise. Probably not another 450 thousand words in eight months! But . . . They will be better words, more thoughtful words, for having taken the time to listen and learn.

Grace and peace,

Emma

Writer, or reader, or lurker, all are welcome here who need it.

And you're right, you've done a LOT of writing since you showed up! Good writing!

In fact, I think you've written more in your year or so here than I have in the last sixteen!

But everyone deserves a break now and then. More importantly, everyone NEEDS one. I'd say people aren't machines, but the truth is that even machines need down time and refurbishing now and then to keep working.

So, take your time. You'll have folks excited to see what you bring to the table when you have more ready to share.

*hugs*

No promises required . . .

. . . just willingness to accept gratitude for what you’ve already shared.

If you want to binge-read something fiercely maternal, there’s always Bike. I think I started reading on one summer vacation, and caught up by the following summer, but the story’s a bit longer now. My one regret is that I didn’t always remember the Kudos button, so Ang is probably at least 1000 down from what she deserves.

Recharge girl!

Your have been a blessing to us all. I was amazed that you wrote 'The Doorway' before we even caught our breath from the incredible wrap up of Maximum Warp. I'm glad you had a chance to travel and rest your poor fingers. lol I am planning my own European vacation for the fall, so if you have any suggestions, lmk. Your friend, :DD

Was That Kevin Bacon?

Or, everybody loves somebody sometime.

Or, you gotta go where you wanna go, do what you wanna do, with whoever you wanna do it with.

Or, do be do be do!

Or, but above all this -- I wish you love.

A Promiscuous Muse...

Hmmmmm.
Rest up your red hot fingers and lay back awhile. I'll look forward to your return.

Astounding!

Emma, that is simply an astounding rate of production. Bravo! No surprise your muse may indeed need (as well as absolutely deserve!) a margarita-infused vacation after such a stint, goodness!

We will all wait patiently for your next magnificent burst of production to manifest, as muses are much like wizards: they are never late, nor are early, but arrive precisely when they mean to. And then there are lovely fireworks! :)

(And dangit, you got me blushing again - thank you for the kind words!!)

And there I was...

thinking that I was doing well with 202,000 words posted in CY 2022. Well done.
When you muse is flowing then it really flows. When it stops don't worry about it, just find something else to do.
Even a little writing each day, can result in a lot of work over a year.

Take a break and come back refreshed.

Ms. Tate- your word torrent stop point

When your word torrent stopped, it was on a date I don't want to forget: March 4th, 2023. That is exactly 100 years after my Dad was born. He always said he was born on the Most Commanding Day of the Year: MARCH FORTH! May your muse come back from vacation sober and wanting to work.
