1:- Young Man, between high-school and College age?, goes on walkabout (for want of a better word).
can't remember if the young man is White American or Chinese\Japanese American, as he has studied under an eastern master most of his life so this could be the eastern connection.
He is a martial artist, can't remember if he'd had mystical background, but I think that his master suggested his walkabout.

Daring Diane's 'Bullied Boy' series.
Focuses on a male with gynecolmastia whom has an ongoing intersex situation & chooses with SO's guidance to appear female, via they are in highschool, due to the natural feminization that his now her body is undergoing in an attempt also to minimise peer abuse/being bullied.
It is on kindle, theres like 5 novels in that series atm.
The MC, is a master level Martial artist under a specific dangerous and apparantly rare form of street fighting skillset, that has Drew (MC's Name) recruited by the feds as an undercover bodyguard type in the latest one.
Plenty of dealings with law enforcement from the first book throughout, with a primary reoccuring female officer, that ends up one of his students, after he is hired to give public and private lessons by new 'master', not a bdsm story fyi.
This story is focused around highschool age for the MC's besides the adults that is.
It deals with common abuse, drugs, alcohol, Suicidal idiation, athletic 'boys-town' sexist intimidation tactics, sexual harassment, the indifferences in boys & girls bullying, cyberbullying, guns etc.
Even if not what you are looking for, it might be up your alley.

the character is a Tao Magic apprentice who is on walkabout. There is a second story with the same main character, post Bikini Beach, also by poetheather.
