So yesterday, my mom got a new set of dentures, hopefully allowing her to eat more. She also got a pair of hearing aids, which also will help.

Will this mean we get a reprieve, and have her around a bit longer?

I guess time will tell.

Sorry to send a note of caution, but that may not be an improvement for long.

My own mother, now deceased two years, had dementia. She was also hard of hearing, wore glasses, had a denture and, because she lost a lot of hair early, also wore a wig a lot of the tme.

As the dementia progressed she forgot why she had most of those things. The dentures went first because the doc and my father decided it wasn't safe for her to use them; she might choke. The hearing aids often got taken out because she didn't know what they were for. They got lost, they were expensive, eventually my father stopped trying. She would wear the glasses and was fine with them on, but sometimes didn't know why they were on her face, put them down and instantly forgot about them.

The wig lasted until she went into the hospital for final care. Somebody stole it and her wedding ring.

Be advised. I'm sorry, it isn't likely to be a pretty ending.

You have my sympathies.
