Here in the land of the terminally stupid the weather is still flirting with summer, sunshine, blue skies but windy, one day warm, the next frigid - yup, autumn is here!

Yesterday I rode up to Emley Moor transmitting station is a telecommunications and broadcasting facility on Emley Moor in Kirklees, West Yorkshire. Its made up of a 1,084-foot-tall (330.4 m) concrete tower and is the tallest freestanding structure in the United Kingdom, seventh-tallest freestanding structure and fourth-tallest tower in Europe and 24th-tallest tower in the world. The top of the tower is 1,949 feet (594 m) above sea level, due to the site's elevated position on the eastern edge of the Pennines which also means its a flippin' big climb to get up to it on a bike. Its a pity you can't go up, the views must be incredible from up there, they are pretty impressive from the base, looking out as it does over a good chunk of GOC!

I had been meaning to make the 50km ride for a while so as I was headed north and the weather was warm and bright I headed there instead of Wakefield which will wait for another day. It was a good head clearing ride, all your energies go into negotiating the roads and enjoying the Pennine views, take your eye off the ball and you'll be keeping the sheep company in a field!

I did get a new Gaby chapter completed on Monday and moved my annual travelogue volume a bit closer to completion so its been a quite productive week so far despite my angst ridden blog on Monday!

All being well i'll get more scribbling done on Friday after a run out tomorrow and before a hoped for 'monster' ride on Saturday - its a case of making the most of the weather whilst it lasts.
