On the one hand, I added almost 4500 words to the new story I'm working on last night (11k+ and climbing rapidly). On the other hand, I was up 'til after 4am writing them. Thank God that I work from home most days...

Tell me about it.

1000 words in a single half hour alone, writing so fast my fingers smoke... on a new story idea completely unrelated to any of my other ones.

*sips coffee*

Anyone else?

If I really get in the groove

and can manage to ignore typos for the sake of getting an idea down I can average 120-150 words per minute, though my normal speed is somewhere closer to 85-100 given my habit of correcting and re-working as I go. It's improved a lot over the years.

My main problem when it comes to speed is that I always prefer to play through events in my head a few times and get them right before committing them to paper. I don't typically keep an outline or anything physical to guide me, so that always ends up with a lot of going back, re-reading, and re-thinking to keep on point, which seriously hurts my speed when I'll type for twenty seconds and stop for fifteen minutes to think about what to type next.

awesome.

But I was more referring to my muse's ADHD or staying up all night than sheer speed. :)

Shoo!

I've been shooing the little _itch away for the last two days! She just keeps whispering in my damn ear.

"Come on!" The temptress keeps saying. "You know you like this idea. What's is it going to hurt to write a paragraph or two about it?"

Yeah right! I have two stories I've promised to get ready to send to Cathy to proof and yet another I need to clean up so I might be able to make a little money off of it. If that wasn't enough I have a story I'm trying to finish writing too!

If I listen to my muse I'll end up caught up in her mesmerizing song and won't get any of those things done!

I don't want to hear about Time ships impressing a poor helpless soul as its crew nor about beautiful evil aliens!

Go Away! Shoo! :)

Been there done that!

See, I'm glad that my muse is inspiring me to write. My problem is that the way my brain is wired, the most productive times for me to actually sit down and write are about 2-4am. Which, y'know, is fine if all I'm doing is writing, but since I've got this pesky job that keeps making me get out of bed before noon, problems arise...

Also, Time ships? Beautiful, evil aliens? Do tell... ;-)
