There was an interesting/comical bit in the Doctor Who episode tonight. The Doctor is in an American town in the late 1800s wild west. At one point he asks to borrow a horse. The horse's owner agrees and goes on to say that the horse's name is Joshua. The Doctor says no it isn't; I speak horse, it's Susan and he wants you to respect his life choises.

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair

Too pretty to be a boy horse

Wasn't a big part but Susan was an impressive beast---Rich chestnut with that white star and the striking golden mane---and played her part with consummate professionalism. Fun episode. That Yul Brenner sure has put on weight though...

Looking out my window while watching this episode I can see ........ horses. Mostly combinations of brown, black and white. The 2012 drought has driven one of the local wild herds into our neighborhood since summer began. Their whinnying late at night melds with my dreams. As much as I love seeing them (especially when they've got babies wobbling along with them- so cute!) I pray that we get a good snowpack this winter so they can move back out into the chaparral, where I'm sure they like it better and there aren't any crazy homeowners chasing them away from their begonias with rakes, country that looks amazingly like whatever part of England (Andalusia on Thames?) they filmed that episode in.
