This has to count as one of the most bizzare stories ever to come out of the world of sport:

A female Indian athlete who won a gold medal at the 2006 Asian Games appeared in court on Friday charged with raping her former lover who has alleged that she is actually a man.

Pinki Pramanik was remanded in custody for 14 days to await trial on allegations that she repeatedly raped her female live-in partner.

Just a note of caution: while the article itself remains fairly neutral and even mentions a couple of intersex conditions at the end, the comments are far from neutral, with most jumping to negative conclusions.

Too many commenters on Yahoo are total idiots. My home page is on Yahoo and too often it is the comments that are more fun to read than the actual article.

Of course, expecting Yahoo to

Of course, expecting Yahoo to not have some yahoos who just have to spout how "smart" they are...

Comments (especially on Yahoo and other anonymous places) are rarely better than the basest definition of closed-mindedness. That's my opinion at least.

Okay I know this is going to

Okay I know this is going to put some people off but. I don't care what the fudge they are, if that person really did rape that girl, They deserve whatever nine hells come to them!

Not putting me off

Rapist? Send them down, absolutely. Condemn other trans or intersex people in a general way? Absolutely not. That is what the comments are doing. Let me put it this way: a black man rapes somebody. By all means damn him to hell, but would you accept a series of comments telling you that what he did is what one should expect from all black people? (Edited: Sephrena)

Publicity we can ill afford!!!!

This is what the face of transgenderism looks like to the world; fraud being the least of Pinki's worries. If the reports are true, it's not about a transsexual or a woman succeeding in the world of sport, but instead about a man posing as a woman and after the limelight has faded, being brutal and bullying to a single mother.

The former middle-distance runner, who retired from the international scene after the 2006 Doha Asian Games, was found to be a male in the test reports at a private nursing home on Thursday.

"The reports conducted by us show that Pramanik is a male," Subrata Mukherjee of Uma Nursing Home, where the test was conducted, told media.

Other reports indicate that Pinki initially refused to allow any test or examination to verify her gender. There may be a lawsuit involved here, but what I see is a criminal case regarding false imprisonment and rape.

But we shall, rest assuredly so, be condemned once again as freaks as many will look past the facts of this case to see what they wish to see!

Question is why was the suit filed against Pinki Pramanik? Is her former lover out to destroy her or trying to becme a celebrity at the expense of Pinki Pramanik

"We don't know whether it was

"We don't know whether it was a case of being male physically or hormonal change over a period of time which can happen," Athletics Federation of India secretary C.K. Valson told the Press Trust of India news agency.
