Just got back from a nice walk around the local area, checked the news to see if the TdF had finished...

...and yup, it had and there were no unforseen calamities, so we ended up with the perfect result as predicted for the past few days: Cav won the stage, Wiggo won the race, and Froome was second.

Congratulations to all three!

Next stop: a certain quadrennial sporting event... which starts on Friday evening for most, but Wednesday afternoon for the footballers (!)

Not only that ...

... but he lead out Mark Cavendish to win the final stage on the Champs Elysee for the fourth consecutive year and Chris Froome, another Briton on the same team was second overall. It could hardly be better and kept SWMBO and me on the edge of our seats for the last two laps in case the break didn't get caught. To say we were chuffed would be a gross understatement :)

Only drawback is that there's no more Tour de France for another year and, sadly, the Giro (Italian Tour) and Vuelta (Spanish Tour) doesn't get the same treatment.

Story

I have a related story written, but I shall hold it for a day to prevent collision with a much better Bike-based tale.

Wiggo Wins!

Wonder if Cathy and Simon were there to see it?

Yes, Britain may no longer

Yes, Britain may no longer rule the waves, but for a year at least, they rule the roads of France! Congratulations from the other side of the pond.

{I leave a trail of Kudos as I browse the site. Be careful where you step!}

Not so sure about that.

My other sport is sailing (retired dinghy racer) and we Brits do quite well at that too :)

Congrats

To the British, the English, the whole UK and anyone in the commonwealth that is stirred by "God Save The Queen", for having one of their own (Brit anyway) win the TdF for the 1st time ever! Kim and I were for Wiggens the entire tour; Kim thinks Brad's face look like John Lennon's , John's Kim's fave person ever to live.

We thought it was too bad that Froome wasn't allowed or didn't understand he was allowed to go on his own at the end of the 2nd last mountain stage. Wiggo was safe, Chris still had lots of energy and Chris and Sky could have had another stage win. The interviews with Brad and Chris after the stage, saying opposite things about whether Chris was allowed to go for the win, showed the confusion. Chris is 25 YO, young for a grand tour rider; he'll learn more and gain confidence. Those 2 were so impressive! It seemed like Chris was the stronger climber, some days at least, but we knew Wiggo would rule in the final TT.

Indeed

Froome for next year?

Froome Next Year?

Commentators said "Only if he joins another team." Wiggo will continue as the leader and GC man for Sky until he can't, is injured, etc. Froome is still learning and seems so loyal to Wiggo and Sky. I don't know if anyone can offer him enough to leave.

The worry isn't Froome

but Cavendish, will he be able to stick with a team that goes for GC and not the green jersey?

They have other things to think about next weekend, but ultimately these issues will need to agreed.

Congrads once more to Wiggo.. and ....

Wiggo,

Is he one of the Marx Brothers? You know, Gummo, Zeppo, Chico, Grocho, Harpo...

Sorry.

And as to the America's Cup. Herre's a little side bit about one of it's participants.

A home grown Wisconsinite.

Talk about hard water... he first sailed in iceboats.

Tried once to fund a syndicate to build a Chicago area boat and if he had won, the defence would have been in the fresh water of Lake Michigan.

P.S. What with the Brit team win in the TdF and the upcoming Summer Olympics, how about a salute to the Queen?
