A sprinkling of Spring

Yup, Spring seems to have arrived!

Is it only 4 days since I last posted? I still haven't found any pasta in the shops but bread has come off the shortage list and there was a bit more in the freezer cabinets. On the minus side, pubs, cafe's and restaurants are now effectively out of bounds and much travellers accommodation has shut up shop too. Takeaway is the new eating/drinking out so if the weather is amenable there are a few options out there but on the bike, not enough to guarantee food when you need it.

I have been out on two wheels - so far its still allowed, on Friday out to Tetbury and today up to Slimbridge, taking a pack of sandwiches with me to ensure my calorie intake. The two rides have added almost 230km to the pot but only 1700m of up! whilst Friday was a bit grey, today has been largely sunny although the NE wind has kept the temperature down to single figures most of the day. A lot of people were out on their bikes, perhaps fearful that it may be the last chance for perhaps months - hopefully not but the speed things have been changing who can say?

Tuesday is the next planned ride day but before that I need to do a clean and replace the rear tyre on my steed - I've got my Yorkshire moneys worth out of the old one - the cotton carcass is exposed in places so even I know its time!

What else - oh right, writing. Well I'm now only about 5k words short of completing book 25, i'll be dedicating much of tomorrow to writing, I really want to get it in the can so you lot can read it this week. Looking to the future, I already have the title and several story threads for Book 26 - another reason I want to get 25 out!

With attractions and accommodation forced into closure my diary has seen a swathe of cancellations, everything I had planned on into May and beyond has fallen victim. That includes the Archaeology trip I was organising, the York Cycle Rally and cycle sportive events in the UK and Germany. At the moment I won't add the writers symposium to the list, it is after all over 4 months away still but i'll be keeping an eye on developments and keep you informed.

Which brings me to todays Gaby chapter - Shop, Shop!

There will be more from the Wunderkind on Wednesday so tune in then,

Wiedersehn

Spring? Where?

It started snowing here about 3 hours ago, ground is turning white again :(

We the willing, led by the unsure. Have been doing so much with so little for so long,
We are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

Southern England

Maddy
I live in Southern England and I know someone who works for Lilds. For now, they are now putting out whatever pasta they get overnights first thing in the morning. You might have to wait for a half-hour or hour to go in, not yet but they are thinking of implementing that time to seniors and high-risk people.

Pasta Queues

and queues for the butchers and ...
I'm fully expecting to get the letter this week telling me that I need to stay indoors for 3 months. (bugger that for a game of soldiers)
I am pretty sure that I fall into this category (from gov.uk website)
people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment
As there is no cure for leukaemia...
We shall have to see eh?

I have a large garden that needs work, veggies to grow, wood to chop, hedges and grass(or moss) to cut. Staying indoors is just not going to work. Staying at home possibly.
We shall have to see won't we eh?

Take care out there
Samantha

That i'll get pasta in the next couple of days - after all, everyone else has already got a ton of the stuff! Then I can actually use the mince and sauce components rather than just look at them longingly every time I go through my supplies inventory! Might have to go to a 'superstore' later who might just have some.

I just made about a years worth of lasagna noodles now they have to dry for storage be sides one should never make lasagna with fresh pasta. Unless of course they intend on putting the lasagna in a bowl as soup, Infact you should not cook the noodles until you make the dish then your lasagna will sit as a nice square on your plate.

Have a good day and enjoy life.

well

it wasn't what I was looking for but the superstore did have some fresh tagliatelle and egg noodles in stock but there is still little in the way of dried food on the shelves.

The most annoying thing is that despite an element of rationing there are still hoarders filling trolleys and its almost certain that all the panic bought pasta will still be in cupboards this time next year. So I await some shells arriving but in the meantime I may well have chicken carbonnara tomorrow! (having found all the components today)
