Kudos

Forums:

I am sure by now everyone has had some experience with the new Kudos system. (you do click it to let the authors know their work is appreciated right?)

Clicking it obviously requires the server side script to do a bit more work than the previous version and as a result it takes a bit longer to acknowledge that you have clicked it.

Here is the thing, it sometimes takes so long that it is possible to leave the page before your kudo is registered and I am concerned that the authors and not actually seeing all of the kudos that have been sent their way.

We all have seen authors from time to time post that they didn't think their stories were being appreciated by the lack of kudos. Be nice to them, I know you may be in a hurry to get to the next story, but take the few seconds to wait until the server acknowledges your kudo before moving on or hitting your back button.

Just my $0.02

Re: Kudos

I actually appreciate the new Kudos module, since it lets me know if my kudo has been registered. This is especially nice when I re-read favorite stories and authors. Now I can make sure that my trail of kudos is effectively reaching the authors.

Comparative Kudos

There seems to be a slight increase in kudos points awarded to my regulary posted story since 'the recent big change' so I guess that it is at least as useable as before. I do however miss the running total in 'My Account' which lets us know whether older work is attracting new readers or 'dead in the water'.
Sadly now my favourite authors are almost certainly unaware of the kudos I award to their older posts or indeed see that their work used to be listed as a 'favourite' in My Account.

My stories

My stories is where you find your running total per story.

What is the Kudos total for a prolific writer like Angharad?

I was thinking of the author total kudos count that used to be on the History or My Account page. For a prolific author this would be in the hindreds of thousands from their thousands of posts. I can't see anything like that available now so we would be unaware of kudos additions to any but the most recent posts.

Be happy that you have a replacement for kudos, that someone actually took the time to find that replacement module. We could have none after kudos module was discontinued.

I am sure that IF they plan on readding that grand total, it is low priority fix, (since it would involve hacking the modules [usually against the BCTS policies, since you need to rehack each update]).
