Maiden by Decree by Maggie Finson

Maggie's new epic about a boy who becomes a "Maiden by Decree" is now appearing at StarDust. I've got permission to post it here but haven't done so yet. If you want to read it right away, as it comes out, the chapters will be on StarDust days before they appear here. And it's good. :)

Hugs,
Erin

BigCloset TV

What could be more appropriate for a TG website than a TV channel? :) So there it is, lower left of the front page, courtesy of those bad people at YouTube -- a transgender TV channel, if that isn't a tiny bit redundant. :)

It's an experiment so it may not stay up forever. We'll see. It's really an advertisement envelope, so it could be really really bad.

Hugs,
Erin

For everyone ...

... who posts that they don't like serial stories, or don't like drabbles, or don't like stories with crossdressing or magic or bodysuits or superheroes or you don't like stories that have lots of keywords or not enough keywords -- there's such a simple solution I'm surprised no one has thought of it.

Kim Memorial Fund

I asked Piper to provide a way so the community can donate to help with expenses and whatever financial assistance she might need right now. The box is in the top right column right now and for the next week or two. After that, you'll still be able to find it here if you aren't able to donate until later.

Upgraded Software

The BC core software has been upgraded to version 5.7. This should make very little difference in operation of the site but will enable easier future upgrades and will protect against a few exploits that could be attempted on the earlier software (though we have never had such an attempted exploit here). There also a few minor bug fixes, a few of which may cause minor problems.

Stopping the Train

I'm really considering pulling the plug on BC. It seems many people are unhappy with my attempts to keep this a friendly place to read, write and discuss TG fiction.

Recent blogs seemed to be going well then people started quitting because of remarks in the blogs. So I pulled the blogs and now more people are quitting.

Missing

There were four or five blogs with some rather hot discussions going on. Lots of good and thoughtful and thought-provoking posts. Unfortunately, some people were being hurt, two authors have quit and another may quit. Some of the most hurtful comments were well-intentioned but perhaps too easily misunderstood.

Amazingly

There are some hot discussions going on and some rants, but there's no flamewar. :)

I felt sort of annoyed last night when I went to bed at 2 a.m. about the discussion but this morning I'm pleased. We can have a free-for-all and express opinions without getting insulting. Good.

Hugs,
Erin

Vacation

Tomorrow I'll be leaving on vacation--or holiday as some say. I'll be gone a week, up to the Bay Area to visit my brother and I may meet a few of you at the con that's the same weekend in San Jose. I'll have my laptop and cell phone with me, so I won't be out of reach and I'll spend an hour or so a day here, no doubt.

Novel Contest

The novel writing contest ended during that time my mom was in the hospital and I had no spare attention. Twice since then, I've sat down and constructed the polls needed for people to vote on the contest and twice Murphy ate my breakfast. It's been six months, the novel contest is over. Everybody that entered won. Sorry, I just don't have the steam; that locomotive left the station empty.

Server problems

The server is acting oddly, I've had to reboot twice. Once last night and one just now. Service may be up and down for awhile. There's a lot of bogus traffic being logged, we may be under Denial of Service Attack. Or it may just be some goof on the network at the server farm has his Windows machine configured to broadcast everything he's doing over the local net. That's happened before.
