Oklahoma, OH KAY! Very nice to seen the welcoming environment that will likely nurture and speed the healing. Terrific story. And yes, hankies are very much needed!

An OK bunch indeed.

On both occasions that I've been to the USA

Everyone has been friendly, kind and helpful. Foremost in my memories were the restaurant owners in Sitka, AK and Charleton, SC and the police officers in New York City and Newport, Rhode Island.

Sadly our trip to Alaska was only a taster of the USA but I, at least, plan to return.

If you visit Texas, try San

If you visit Texas, try San Antonio or Austin. San Antonio may be more Mexico than Texas nowadays, but it's still a slower/easier tourist visit. Austin is... just Austin. It's hard to describe.

Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth are simply enormous metroplexes. There's a lot to do, but it is so spread out that you'd spend too much time travelling and not seeing. (Unless you just like seeing 18 lane freeways.)
