Inspired by Angharad's Christmas story, I went for a walk/run this morning. It took me an hour to do three miles, most of the time walking. But I had a blast. I love running.

Unlike the story, I wore ordinary running togs... no tutu, no wings, no pink. And there was NO assortment of beautiful running partners, unfortunately -- everyone else on the track was my age or older, which means fifties and sixties. Even so, it was fun.

I hadn't run for about a year, which made the experience seem very new.

After a mile and a quarter I suddenly felt in the zone and started running without effort... I recalled what a girl once told me: "The first mile's just a warmup, anyway."

Of course, being so out of training, I couldn't keep going, and walked most of the way.

Still, it's a start; we'll see if I keep it up. Maybe if there were more stories about runners?

Go, girl! Good for you!

Don't feel compelled to run too much, too soon. That can be a recipe for injury. Walking is just fine as a way to improve your health and endurance. Then as you improve you can add in a bit more running each week.

I'll keep to my bike,

I did just under twenty miles, half of it into a nasty headwind. My knees and back won't allow much running these days. Thanks for the plug.
