BCTS books on Amazon

Hi,

I don't have an immediate answer to your question. I know of several BCTS authors who are on Lulu, which uses the EPUB format for eBooks, making them available at Lulu as well as iBookstore for a variety of EPUB readers (Nook from Barnes & Noble, Adobe Digital Editions, etc.)

I have six eBooks listed on Lulu and discovered to my shock that the process of obtaining the ISBN number (necessary for serious professional sales) through Lulu (free) tied me to them as publisher. And as such, they do not have a setup for conversion to MOBI, the format used by Amazon for Kindles.

I was very upset that I had been blocked from making my novels available in the Kindle format, and I'm willing to bet the other BCTS authors were, as well. Should have known that "free" equaled "limited"! The option is to come up with a minimum of $250USD to purchase ISBN numbers myself, which also affects the IRS (your Inland Revenue, I believe) status of myself as, suddenly becoming a Publisher--a business, in other words. The one-click Lulu ISBN makes a bit more sense ...but I'd rather be available on Kindle!

All I can suggest is trying to get eBooks from BCTS authors on Lulu and read them on your computer, or iPhone or iPad, or basically anything other than a Kindle. Sorry--but there are some good books there!

Best of luck,
Karin Bishop

Can you publish the books separately on Amazon?

Even if the ISBN number are tied to the Lulu editions, does that prevent you from also submitting your books to Amazon?

Can you just let the ISBN numbers stay with the Lulu versions and just publish a Kindle version separately?

Lulu may not offer a service to convert to Kindle, but Amazon runs their own service. Also, publishing in the Amazon bookstore seems better than just producing a MOBI file because then readers can take advantage of Amazon's whispersync. I like being able to read on multiple devices and always continuing from where I left off.

Amazon's own publishing service can be found here:

I don't work for Amazon, I just like reading books on my Kindle.

Different editions

Different editions of a book are entitled to different ISBN numbers. The ISBN number identifies the edition, not the title. So a trade paperback, a hardback, and mass market paperback would all have different ISBNs. Kindle editions do not have ISBNs, they have ASINs which is Amazon's own identifier, Amazon in fact, tells you not to put in an ISBN number that has been used for a print edition in the space they provide for an ISBN. Barnes and Noble have similar rules. Apple, on the other hand does ask for an ISBN for each ebook. Smashwords... I'd have to go look.

Hugs,
Erin

If you don't mind a bit of a wait... :-)

If you don't mind a bit of a wait I had a deal proposed to me to publish Becoming Robin through Barnes and Noble and Amazon not too long ago. I'm still waiting on the details on that though, so I don't know exactly when it will be :-)

Other than that, as Karin suggested, non-Kindle options are out there floating around, or if there's some way out there to convert to the Kindle format (Or does it do pdf? I don't own one so I have no idea :-D)

Good luck in your search!
