Just on ABC: Steve Jobs has passed away at 56.

Thanks for the FYI on the late Mr Jobs

Steve and Woz ARE the fathers of the modern computer age.

As important as Bill Gates was with Microsoft would there even be the PC without Apple creating the field?

Well that and VisiCalc, the first widely used spreadsheet/acounting program for those early machines.

Once business realized you could do something useful and profitable on a desktop...Whoa momma!

Hope you are feeling well, Karen.

Steve Jobs, dead at 56. "Don't settle," he said.

"...the only way to do great work is to love what you do," he also said to the Stanford graduating class in 2005.

I met the man once, back in the 80s, at the announcement of the Lisa computer. I met Matt Groening that day, too, and saw a short clip of The Simpsons made for The Tracy Ullman show on that new network, Fox. Matt had a lot of hair and a beard, Jobs didn't but both had big smiles.

My brother has worked as an executive at Apple Computer for the last ten years. For awhile, before and even after Jobs health problems, Don and other engineer team managers had regular meetings with Steve.

The world keeps turning and even men and women who have a great impact on the way we live have only a limited time to do what they must. Find what you love to do and do it.

Don't settle.

Hugs to all,
Erin

Family, too

Let's all remember Steve's family, too, the people closest to him. A wife is missing her husband tonight and four other people, their father.

Hugs to all,
Erin

P.S. Let's keep this thread friendly in our own tradition and out of respect for the man's family.

And since God knows talent ...

... when She sees it, Steve's already hard at work redesigning the Universe to be more user-friendly. Sure the angels working with him have only just begun to grumble, but trust me ... when he's finished, the new interface is gonna be totally awesome. *smile*

We're going to miss you, Steve. You had vision, a fierce commitment to excellence and simplicity, and a vocabulary of expletives that would make a fleet of sailors blush. But you brought the world a lot closer to insanely great than any one person had a right to, and the cutting edge is going to be a lot less sharp now that you're gone.

I can't think of a better epitaph than this ... the text of an ad from years ago. It was originally meant to define Apple, but it wound up applying to Steve all too well.

"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them. Disagree with them. Glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world
are the ones who do."

Thank you, Mr. Jobs. *hugs* Now that you're gone, I guess the least the rest of us can do is keep on working to change the world without you. I promise you we'll do our best.

Sad

As someone on another board I frequent, iSad... Today is a sad day.

RIP Steve. You have touched the world and changed the way we communicate.

Thank you.
