According to the CNN web site, the newest edition of the DSM (the "bible" of psychiatry) has been posted for comment. The comment period runs through June 15.

by using the link in the article, I have been able to comment on the DSM-5 draft, I was also able to see some of the current thinking and minefields the various committees face.
One of the interesting things, previously missing, was the idea of an exit strategy, where those who've gone through the medical system are no longer 'pathologised' and cease to meet criteria for inclusion unless suffering from some form of distress as a consequence of that choice/treatment.
It's all very complicated - but at last, we're being treated as human beings, not just bodies with syndromes.

Comments on GID
I made a comment on the GID section that is extremely critical of the use of psych drugs for GID folk. Though I doubt that it will change much.

I do need to read it...
But, one writer speculated that there's a "gotcha" in there that keeps you - as long as you're still taking hormones. Not sure if it made it into this version for sure or not... But, *sighs*

Not that the Gender Dysphoria section's hard to find, but as a more direct route:

They are still finalising the criterion / rationale / severity for Unspecified Gender Dysphoria.
And on the Rationale page, you'll find the thinking that lead them to adopt the "Gender Dysphoria" label, as opposed to "Gender Identity Disorder" or "Gender Incongruence"

Meanwhile, I note that the comments section of the CNN article have attracted the "Big Pharma" conspiracy theorists (who believe the entire point of DSM is to aid doctors in prescribing more drugs) and the God Squad (who apparently believe that following the guidelines in a certain religious text somehow prevents you getting any kind of psych condition...)

The DSM V will be formally announced and discussed with the transgender community in Atlanta on September 25th at the WHC in conjunction with the Southern Comfort Conference. There will be a day of discussion on that day specifically covering the new guidelines.
