Danielle J told you about her Racoon , well my day stared at 7:20 AM when a deer jumped out in front a my car I hit it going about 50 MPH it bounced over my engine hood then slid about 30 or 40 feet and got up and ran away can't say as much for my car. The left front fender, headlight assemble, bumper has a rip and the engine hood is rippled so it cost $500.00 dollars as a deductable and the loss of the car for a few days.I am OK just a very fast heart beat. Oh and 1 of my dogs was so frightened he threw up. What a way to start St Patricks day-----------HUGS and KISSES RICHIE2 P.S. I didn't even get any steaks out of this

Glad you are safe

Glad you are safe. Hiting a deer is a sure way to get hurt. One of the worst scares I had, was when, I was driving in upstate NY and a deer ran out in front of me. I hit the breaks and skided anddid a 360. I did not hit the deer and the car wasn't damage. Just my heart was racing.

So happy you weren't hurt!

The worst danger when you hit a deer, especially in a car, is that it comes through the windshield.

I hit one about a year and a half ago and it totalled my old Corolla. Here in the Chicago area we have forest preserves all over the place but I wasn't near one at the time. The deer had been running down a railroad easement and was crossing a four lane from one residential area to another. What a surprise to see a five point buck less than three blocks from my house!

I'm sure the deer was fatally injured but it still managed to run off with an obviously broken rear leg. No one who stopped behind me saw where it went. As I was in a residential area, I just hope it didn't encounter any joggers or kids.

Glad you got off easy

and lucky. The biggest thing I have hit was a coyote. A pack of them ran across the road about 6AM as I was going to work a couple of years ago. I saw them at the last second, as they passed in front of the car in front of me. He got lucky, but I tagged the last one in the bunch. I heard and felt the impact and came to a stop about 100 yards down the road. When I opened the door, I could hear him yapping, and yelping, but couldn't see him in the rearview. Then I smelled the burning hair., where he was under the car, caught up by the converter/muffler. I jumped out away from the car, and he came out the other side, ran about 30 yards, then turned and made noises at me, then ran off. He destroyed the splash pan under the bumper, and damaged the bumper. Still have the damage as I never had the bucks to lay out the deductible. The front end of the Malibu is all plastic, so there is no body work, just replace parts and re-paint, which costs more than the parts. It sure was no fun, and a deer is even worse. He could have come through the window to join you for breakfast.
