If you’ve discovered that someone stole all of your DVD’s and most of your music CD’s, would that be ‘poH or just a crappy day?

Some days I just want to run away and hide.

*sigh*

Did this happen?!

Such a bad time!

When my next-to-last roommate was evicted, he decided it would be smart to leave the front door unlocked and tell all his friends to come get whatever was theirs from the apartment -- when I wasn't home. I came back to find not only part of my CD's missing, but part of what was left smashed or scratched, jars of food shattered in the kitchen floor, my guitar stolen... the list goes on. I just calmly called the landlord and had him take a look at things before I began cleanup. There wouldn't have been a point in calling the police; what could they have done?

So, I feel your pain. But I don't think that's 'Poh. 'Poh would be the certain knowledge that something like that will happen to all of us one of these days, and there's nothing we can do about it.

Nope!

Finally, I thought. Somebody is finally going to explain the meaning of "poH". But no such luck. Lately, there seem to be a lot of inside jokes on BC, especially in (but not limited to) the Retcon stories. It reallly is hard to understand what is going on in some of the Retcon stories when so much of it is a "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" to obscure facts about comic books, their writers and artists. Sadly, my request to one Retcon author for some explainations was totally ignored, without even the courtesy of a reply.

So, if it won't give away too much insider humour, could somebody at least explain what "poH" means?

I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.

The meaning of 'poH

The meaning of 'poH is explained in my story (last week) of the same name:

Briefly, it's a trivial but deep depression brought on by the realization that some things never change for the better. :)

The feeling brought about by the theft of something you value would be 'poH only if that sort of thing has happened to you before and you are positive that it will happen again. There has to be an certain inescapable fate involved to qualify as 'poH.

Oh

Oh, well, I mean, umh . . . I didn't read it. I was way busy, and not know what POH meant, I just skipped over it.

Is it an acronym?

'poH

Nope, it's Hope spelled backward with an apostrophe so you don't pronounce the e. :)

'poH

is arodnaP. All the rest of your world may be wonderful, but you just know the same box will keep opening.

This might be 'poH

Since this has happened before and at least until we can move away, there is a good chance it will happen again. Maybe it is 'poH.

Can it be 'poH if one feels that this keeps happening and will keep happening and there doesn't seem to be one blessed thing that you can do about it? Maybe.

It's a great story by the way.

If it smells like angst and tastes like wormwood...

Since 'poH is a feeling, its definition to each person is subjective.
