I'm waiting to take her to the emergency vet, so I don't know if I shall be able to write Bike today, it looks doubtful so sorry but my little furry baby is my priority at the moment.

:( Sorry to hear, and I echo all the wishes for the best. <3!!

I've seen the vet

and she diagnosed Ideopathic vestibular disease, which affect the centre of balance in the cat, causing them to wobble about and fall and to have nystagmus, or they move their eyes left and right all the time, it's like vertigo in humans. It should improve in a day or two but can recur in older cats, Whizz is 15.5 years old, so an old cat. Could say the same about her owner - I just pay the vet's bills.

So hopefully she will mostly recover but it frightened me to death. If do a Bike it's likely to be a short one because I have to keep an eye on the cat, trying to get her to rest in order to recover.

getting an animal to rest or take it easy

Please tell me how. I have always had very active hunting breed dogs. When the vet says to keep them from running or jumping I just roll my eyes. Any attempt on those lines would lead to a very rough and tumble wrestling match. Good luck with whizz.

I'm very glad

it isn't something worse, I remember when my cat Mouse had a stroke, he didn't last long after that.

Fur baby is family.

Take care of family first. I'll be praying for your fur baby as we (my wife and I) pray for ours.

Poor kitty

Your description sounds like BPPV, and I had one episode that my doc resolved with the Epley maneuver (canalith repositioning) but I guess there’s no such thing for cats. Hope she’s better soon; she must be scared.

How bad is it

At the moment? Hope he survives or is it a she?

Thank you all for your support.

With a little luck she should make a pretty good recovery, time will tell. I haven't got a clue how much it will cost, but emergency appointments aren't cheap, but then she's worth every penny. I won't say how frightened I was when I thought she was really ill.

Thanks again, and I have posted a Bike episode though it's slightly shorter tonight - ran out of energy.

Oh, Hon!

Hoping for the best! If I could make one wish, it would be that our furry children had longer lives! (Okay, for the oddballs out there, dogs too.) I miss your previous companion, Bonsai, a whole lot too. Just like my previous loves. It's amazing the size of the hole these friends of ours leave in our hearts when they're gone. May you and Whizz have many more years together.

Damn, I started crying while writing this!

Whizz

I am so glad it is not something worse. Unfortunately since they don't know what is causing this balance issue it may recur. Did the vet tell you how to differentiate between this and a real stroke?

My kitty (well she was my partner's kitty actually *sigh*) just turned 8 so hopefully she has many years left. I mentioned 8 because she is now considered a senior cat and the vet I go to demands blood tests now and that raised the cost of a visit by 400 USD or so. Ouch. I also have pet insurance and that is a sizable amount over a year too as they keep raising the rate the older she gets.

I can see why so many older cats don't get the vet visits they need :(

Point is, pets are expensive to keep if one needs to do it properly and I can't imagine the bills for a multi-pet household.

Cats Rule

Good luck to Whizz, I have a moggie in residence who left his original home to live in my Garden, we eventually started to feed him when he was looking a bit worse for wear and 7 years later he is still here, ruling the roost! He has abanonment issues and copes by spending most of his time lolling across my shoulder like an old ladys fure stole. He has no manners, smells, breaks wind and belches but we still put up with him. Vets bills! £800 for teeth extractions inoculations etc.
