There is hope!

A Native American has been appointed by President Biden to head the Department of Interior. And to make it even better the appointee is a woman, Deb Haaland, who is a member of the Laguna Pueblo. By being the Secretary of the Interior it puts her over :

  • Bureau of Indian Affairs
  • Bureau of Indian Education
  • Bureau of Land Management
  • Bureau of Ocean Energy Management
  • Bureau of Reclamation
  • Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement
  • Bureau of Trust Funds Administration
  • National Park Service
  • Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
  • U.S. Geological Survey

Not bad!

Now we have to see what she can do.

PS
Another cabinet secretary is a relative of mine (admittedly not a close relative though)

Sounds like a win win

If she's in touch with her ancestral roots, we may see some improvement in how those departments are handling things.

Haaland is an enrolled member of the Laguna Pueblo and has been involved in their tribal businesses as well as the San Felipe Pueblo.

As a single mother, she worked her way through law school.

She was a sponsor of the Green New Deal and Medicare For All.

I’m confident she will help reverse many of the recent changes in Federal Land Management.

Exploring our roots.

I was quite happy to read about her.
I had thought that I was Navajo, but only just discovered that I am likely Absentee Shawnee Indian. Doing the paperwork now. There are over 300,000 Navajo and only 2200 of Absentee Shawnee. At my age, it is unlikely that I will road trip there to explore.
Your story "Trials and Tribulations ..." got me started again on my own explorations.
Hágoónee.
