Ear Piercing?

So, let's say I wanted to grow up a bit and get my ears pierced. What sort of place would I want to go for it?

I'm a somewhat "mature" person of the genetic male gender, who would want the piercings in order to wear something feminine when dressed. So, besides some place that would do a good, safe job, I would not want any "attitude" to bring me down or mess up the job.

I'm in New York City, so it could be worse, but I'm really clueless.

Any suggestions?

There's quite a few locations

There's quite a few locations, almost too many to count and the vast majority are reputable. If you look online, most tattoo places also do piercings and a guy doing it is not even worth batting an eye at anymore. The most you'd likely get is "where do you want it?" when it's your turn to get the actual piercing.

Just give it a week or two before donning your femme earrings, the studs you will get need to remain in to keep the holes open and safely heal. I know from my own piercings that they close easily and can get infected easily.

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

Ear piercing.

I had mine done at my local walmart. No muss, no fuss. In NY City, Look for a really good tattoo/piercing studio. Make sure they have a rep for being clean and sanitary.

P.S. I'm in western NY, Jamestown.

Piercing

Yeah, ears are easy. Walmart? Hmmm, worth asking. Many, many men have their ears pierced.

I had my nose done. Owieeee.

The worst was my nipples, God that hurt !!! And they didn't even stay in. Not doing that again. Wish I could though.

Look for an established tattoo place. And take heed of the hygiene recommendations - the holes can take many weeks to heal properly before disturbing the internal scars with any other jewellery. A sea salt wash helped mine to heal if they went a bit gungey. Turn the studs but resist playing with them!

Ear Piercing Gun

Besides earrings I am not in favor of any other body piercing. That said, provided one is seeking the earrings (studs) Google "ear piercing gun" without the quotes. One may purchase said gun from Walmart or many other places for fifteen dollars more or less. Assorted studs come with the guns.
Stick with Stainless Steel for the break in period. The last thing one wants is to infect themselves with some metal corrosion because they used any of the metals that can corrode with blood, salt, moisture.
Make sure the holes are where they should be before pushing the needle through or when using the gun. Girls are great at knowing the best location on the ear lobe to accent one's accessories.
I can not recommend removing and reinserting the studs everyday the way I did. I got away with it using Vaseline and alcohol each time the studs went back in. I toss that in there if the studs "must" be removed before healing. Just don't do it is the bottom line.
All said and done, most places who sell jewelery will do ear piercing if one purchases the studs.
And they usually know where the best placement for the holes needs to be. Earrings on women or men can be an accessory to their looks if tastefully done.
I wish you the best
always

Claires

I had my ears pierced at Claires, while I was presenting as a male. They were very professional, I did have to sit in their front window while it was being done but I had a friend with me that wasn't bad either.

Follow the care instructions so they heal up correctly. I love wearing earrings, even in my normal male mode, both ears. Of course I don't wear chandeliers, but I do wear hoops up to an inch regularly.

You'll love them!! They are a great reminder of who you are when things get stressful.

Homonyms, synonyms, heterographs, contractions, slang, colloquialisms, clichés, spoonerisms, and plain old misspellings are the bane of writers, but the art and magic of the story is in the telling not in the spelling.

If you absolutely _must_

If you absolutely _must_ remove the studs, they have little plastic tubes called 'keepers'. They fit into the holes, but being clear plastic, they aren't really visible. There are also plastic front and back discs. I don't know what they're called, but it's like a flat plastic earring, that mostly blends in with the ear.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

All are good suggestions

You can't go wrong with all these solid ideas for you... all you have to do is get it done. You'll be glad you did. Let us all know, via this blog, how it went.

Donna

Thank You, All!

Really appreciate the responses and suggestions.

Now, all I have to do is... decide.

Looking back (many years

Looking back (many years 'back') I wish I'd double pierced each ear. Do what is right for you at this point in your life.

Double hugs,

I just went to Piercing Pagoda......

Which is a chain found in many shopping malls if you’re not familiar with it.

And I might add that I was 55 when I had mine pierced.

Getting it done was no big deal - the fun was the comments at work. I had them pierced on a Friday night, and had to answer a lot of questions on Monday morning.

something everyone forgot

Do your ear lobes produce pain? If you had started to get frostbite on your ears when you were young chances are your lobes are not full of nerves.

Personally I had no problem just putting earrings in first time many many years ago, no pain nothing just poof put earrings through unpierced earlobe. So for me I can't understand why people make a fuss about going someplace to get it done since it does not hurt.

True

Not painful. Mine ached slightly the first night.

Claires

I got mine done at Claire’s both times so far, I had no issues.
