Can someone let me know how to turn off the Doppler books notification in the middle column. Thanks

Sometimes there does seem to be rather a lot of them and IMHO, there are far too many repeats.

I had forgotten to mark them as customizable. You should now be able to turn them off on the My Accounts page if you are logged in. The top box name is "View: doppler" and the one at the bottom is "View: doppler: Block2". I added them late last night and will now be able to stop updating the center column to keep listing Doppler info close to the top. New books will still go to the top when first posted.

I have no issue with them showing when the story first goes into amazon/doppler, but the constant boost to the top for the same story is rather irking.


Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.

I have been boosting to the top different books, not the same one each time. Now the new image will be a random different recent book each half-hour, so nothing has quite been what you seem to be complaining about. In fact, I have been spending a lot of effort to avoid that very thing. This new way will take the pressure off me and allow people who have logged in a method to avoid it entirely.

We get 18% to 73% of the purchase price of each Doppler book. While Hatbox pays the website bills, mostly, advertising and Doppler make it possible for the crew here to keep doing this instead of taking other jobs.

Shame on you for caring too much.

I'm sure that as a person who knows her craft you're well aware of all the studies regarding where on a webpage most people run their eyes. If Erin was shamelessly promoting the books for sale would be placed differently.

You're more than likely also aware that most users are quite capable of visibly ignoring parts of a webpage that they find uninteresting. They simply gloss over them after they've found uninteresting material on that spot on the website, after a few views.

Recently a lot of my books have been advertised. I donate 100% of what I would normally get. Those funds are needed for this site. I really don't care how you advertise them. I just assume that what you're doing creates revenue and that keeps your site running.

You're a much nicer person than me. I wouldn't spend time trying to solve a problem that just isn't real.

You had another shortfall this month. Instead of carping about non-issues, people should be trying to find ways to make sure a shortfall doesn't happen.

Every time I log in, I mentally cross my fingers and am pleased when you're still here. Tonight was no exception. That feeling of dread combined with this thread was grating.

BC is a business. The average business in the United States lasts about ten years, but more than half don't last five years. Yours has beaten the odds through your passion. During my five-decade career, I've seen many Fortune 500 businesses fold. The first company I worked for folded about ten years after I left it. It was a multi-billion dollar company. Several massive companies I worked with have folded, one left me holding the bag for about $120k. Others cost me much more money in lost revenue and opportunity. The point is there is NO, NONE, NADA guarantee BC will be here next month or the month after that without full support. We're a small community that can't wait for someone else to do it and can't complain when Erin does the necessary to keep her doors open.

I realize you nurture a culture where people feel comfortable complaining so that you can address concerns. I applaud you for that patience.

I also realize that not everyone is "average" and maybe those complaining don't have the normal website viewing eye-patterns.
