send enemyoffun and email see if he can get writer interest again in writing new stories. Writers just moved on to other things maybe some of our new authors might be interested

Simple answer?

Oversaturation. Too many authors in too tight a universe. New authors wanting to join up would make stories LESS likely, because it isn't an open universe, but a closed one, so every idea would have to be approved and gone over by the core canon writers, all of whom still have their own stories waiting to be finished.

Basically, it's the same situation as Whateley, but without the allowance for fanfiction.

Fizzled out

In common with previous universes started at BC (The Center, Comics Retcon), the DRU was popular for a while, with many authors chipping in, then it sort of fizzled away with many writing other tales not set in the universe. However, the associated Wiki still gets up to a dozen hits a day, so evidently someone's still reading the stories. IIRC the rules were that if you were writing a story set in the same town as another author (so EOF for Ravencrest, Elsbeth for Skogshaven, Amethyst for Sena Island) you contacted them first, or if you were writing a new 'species' you contacted EOF first, but if it was an existing 'species' in a new location, you were largely free to do what you liked.

Perhaps the only universe to still be updated is that of Whateley, whereby Canon is still updated weekly while there are oodles of fanfics, many being progressed to completion (although occasionally fanfic authors as well as canon authors drift away, but crucially new ones also come on board, so keeping the universe alive).
