Unfortunately, the hit counts missed in the last day or so are just gone, they didn't get recorded.

Bob and I figured out how to fix it but the time machine is broken. Sorry about that.

Missing hits

Sooo... the hits that never were. Are they like... like they're in another dimension? Lost forever, gone? But the poor readers! They didn't exist for the time they existed on the hits that didn't happen! Virtual hits! Numinous readers! (I *love* that word)
And are missing hits like missing bits? I always wondered where mine went....

The hits that got recorded in the wee hours of the morning got wiped out when I was forced to use the 1 a.m. backup to restore the corrupted table. At least the comments weren't affected. The hit table is the most frequently opened table in the database since it gets opened at least twice every time someone looks at a node, and fifty+ times when displaying the front page. FM eliminated hit counters for this very reason but BC's database design is a bit more robust and usually tolerates it. The brownout at the server farm caused the database to fail and since the hit counter table is written to more than twice as many times as any other (except the log table) it was likely to cause a failure there.
