As it's been awhile, thought I'd babble on the current progress drafting Hope's Light. It's going fairly well so far, the draft is somewhere between a third and a half written. Still tons more to do, but it's certainly building that snowball of momentum down the mountainside which becomes the omg avalanche by the end.

But! Over the last few weekends I've also drafted a Light short (just over 7700 words) for an appropriate Christmas-season release! It just needs editing and proofreading, so the plan is to post it in early to mid December. Hopefully it will help tie everyone over until book six comes out - a light Light fix, as it were. :) This story is one I've pondered for awhile, but last year I couldn't spare any writing cycles in the push to get book five drafted by year's end - and as a result it is meant to be read between, naturally enough, The Light Between and the book currently in progress.

Again, thank you to everyone who clicks kudos and especially to those kind enough to comment on all the portions of the saga! They always make my day brighter! And if you're new and have no idea what I'm babbling about, the whole kit-and-kabooble starts here:

Into The Light

If pressed to summarize in a quick sentence (an impossible task, really), I could be cajoled into saying that the saga is what happens when the entire history of Heaven and Creation reaches out, touches you with a twist, and says, 'Tag, you're it!' And now I'm naturally curious as to how my lovely readers would describe it all too, so if you want to - feel free below!!

Oh, and for those curious as to the title of the upcoming short story, simply enough it shall be:

Bethlehem

Thanks everybody!

Hooray!!!

Only proofreading left huh? Well, don't spare the whip, it's taking too long, those lazy good for nothing proofreaders :P

I take it as a good sign that you are elbowing yourself some time for yourself instead of always having your bosses piling on the work thick just because they know you can do the job.

thank you so much

im so glad the story will be continuing i was convinced we would not ever see a new chapter cant wait

Goodness!

Erisian's picture

I know each installment seems to take forever, and I wish I could get them out faster - but please know that I absolutely must see this saga finished! It's an absolute obsession with a life of its own running amok across my thoughts whether I wish it to or no. (Oh hello 3am noodling sessions!!) To (mis)quote Neil Gaiman, this is a madness which keeps me sane. <3

Work

Erisian's picture

We've made it through some of the nuttiest stresses from last spring until now, so I'm hoping the rest of this year won't be as crazy. And as the deadlines spaced out again I've finally been able to delegate more, yay!

As for those proofreaders...they're absolutely golden and deserve many cookies! <3

At least you're not naming it

At least you're not naming it "Nazareth". Or even worse, Kerioth. (As in Judas Ish Kerioth)

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Cities

Erisian's picture

There are quite a few cities to choose from...but the others wouldn't be quite 'Christmas-appropriate', now would they? ;)

Yay!!!!

More Light! More Light! More Light!

What would my one-sentence summary be? “A hidden Angel triggers the Apocalypse by summoning power that transforms a good and decent man into an angelic avatar of the Divine Light of Love.” But — lest potential readers be put off by my summary— it’s more lore than theology. And deeply researched, at that.

I love this story. Brilliantly written, painstakingly planned out, with wonderful characters and relationships that span time and space. This is a truly outstanding saga, and a wonderful binge read. If you start it now, you might be done around the time the Seraph drops her next installment!

Binge Reading Queen

Erisian's picture

Emma, you hereby have my nomination and vote for being our resident 'Binge Reading Queen'! You made it through four and a half of the books in all of twelve days!! Absolutely astounding!! And don't worry, there's no exclusion clause on such titles...so you can still hold a title of being one of our 'Binge Writing Queens' too!!

Much love! <3 :)

guess its time

its been awhile since i read through the entire saga i think its my 4th time

Slow reader.

Slow reader.

*ducks*

No, I'm not a binge queen. Never done a drag run in my life.

Yeah!!!

It’s fascinating that a 7,700+ word story is considered to be “short” lol. But it’s absolutely correct given that each of your books is over 100,000 words! Like all of your fans we are (im)patiently waiting for ‘Hope’s Light’ and will happily read ‘Light” short when you publish it.

Shorts...

Erisian's picture

Actually after some editing today the upcoming story now stands at 8,600+! That's still 'short', right? As it's still only about the length of some of the longest chapters from the books... ;)

Looking at the statistics for fun, the shortest book was The Light Between at 123k words, whereas the longest was Call of the Light at 141k. Typically I sorta aim for ~120k or thereabouts, but always ended up going over. lol

Thanks Voldy!!

Does it help that what I

Does it help that what I consider a "Long" story is one that has at least 300 chapters? That way I have something I can read for more than just one day.

'Bethlehem'

Hi Erisian,

The light bulb just turned on – a week after I wrote my last comment. You said that your short story is named ‘Bethlehem’. In Book 5, Raphael said that “a Convergence would coalesce” and that the last time one occurred “From Earth’s perspective it was 2,000 of their years ago. Gabriel was rather busy during that event too as I recall.” This CANNOT be a coincidence! Will we reading an account of that convergence?

Either way, I can’t wait!

Thanks!

Dangit, now I hafta type with my nose again while sitting on my fingers to avoid saying anything spoilerish! If I keep this up I'll become too proficient with this typing method and who knows what may happen! :)

BC New Year's Contest

joannebarbarella's picture

Dear Erisian,
Now that you have your writing boots on again and a short story in the pipeline I hope it will be real easy for you to enter our BC New Year contest. Details are on the Blogs here if you haven't seen them already.

We really need authors like you to give the contest wide appeal, so please accept this invitation to join in the fun,
Thanks,
Joanne

Thanks :)

Erisian's picture

Thank you for the explicit invitation, and I certainly won't say 'never' and risk having to make the title something repetitive with a theme about a Scottish-accented secret agent actor resolving to never make another movie...

...though you never know, maybe that'd work!

More seriously, having just finished the "Light Novelette" short which should go up within a week, I'm returning all writing focus to Book 6 and continue on with its draft. Should the muse however strike with inspiration for something appropriate for the contest then a quick divergence could be fun - like it was for the Valentine's Day contest two Februaries (more??) ago when a tale popped onto the pages all within an afternoon - but if she doesn't toss the lightning...she doesn't. :)
