She's okay, but please remember Kelly Blake in your prayers?

Kelly Blake, someone many of you may know as an author here, was in an accident three weeks or so ago near her home in Ireland. A drunk driver lost control of his car and it jumped the curb; hitting Kelly. She has had a total hip and partial knee replacement on the right side, but is already in physical therapy. Between the trauma and hitting her head, she remembers nothing about the accident.

Moreover, this week is the anniversary of the deaths of her first husband Owen and her adopted Mom Mea while the family resided in Florida. Ironically, they were killed when a drunk driver ran a red light and hit their van, an accident that closely paralleled her father's death years before.

She's all settled in at her extended family's home with her husband Kevin and their three boys and her other Mom and her sisters taking care of her. Much of her frustration now is that she's already suffering from cabin fever and her injuries keep her from sitting in any one position long enough to write. And she has been writing, for those of you who've enjoyed her stories and her own story.

For those of you who treasure her friendship and even kinship, and even for those who don't know her; would you please remember her in your thoughts and prayers. Both for her continued and complete recovery and for a peace to sustain the family during this very meaningful time? And please comment or even drop her a private message here if you would? I am confident it would mean the world to her.

I've known her since I first came here four years ago, and she's become as a daughter to me; a treasure very dear and precious. I'm very relieved and grateful that she's safe, and all cried out over her hurt. Thanks for reading and your kind words.

Of course

I will add her to my prayers and I hope she recovers well. I'll include you as well, it hurts when a friend gets hurt, so remember to seek support yourself if you need it.

Ummm...

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and sentiments. It's very difficult, as some of you know, to put your entire life on hold for the purpose of recuperation. I never realized just what a blessing it is to be able to go and perform bodily functions unattended!!! :D I am walking...sort of...and recovering more rapidly than was expected. Your words have been nothing short of a blessing and Drea has been an island of sanity amidst a sea of distress. I am lucky to have such loving and understanding people around me including my cyber friends.

May You All Be Blessed A Thousand Times...

To Kelly:

Hi, Kelly. Good morning. I read Aunt Andrea's note here. I'm sorry to hear about your accident. But, Godwilling, you'll be fine.

You know, I didn't know much about hip and knee replacements so I did a bit of reading. It's what nerds do, you know - we research things. Even the TG girl ones. lol And the NIH site was very informative.

After reading about hip and knee replacements, I think prayers aren't needed. And I will explain...

Seems such operations are done all the time, and complications are well known & eminently manageable. And if your replacement operations went well, it should be smooth sailing after that.

In fact, the site said that after the operation, the patient can almost immediately start moving around, and any therapy required will be mild "range and motion" therapy. So, although a bit strenuous, it'll not be bad.

The replacements don't last long, however - only fifteen to twenty years (I am being sarcastic, of course lol - twenty years is a looong time).

And when it comes time to replace the replacements (as they inevitably will need to be), it will be about the same situation since changing replacements are done alla time. A little more possible complications, but they are known and can be anticipated.

You will be able to do most everything you used to do except that, in the case of the hip, the range of motion is a little less than before because the ball joint is smaller, and because of this, it may pop out if, say, you try to do the splits or you try and put your forehead on your shin. (lol) But other than that, it'll be like before.

But I am sure you know all that, and your doctors have explained it all a lot better. So go ahead - live it up and dance! But no high-kicks, though...

And I am sure you'll get your bikini figure back.
Just exercise, avoid too much sun for a while, and when the sutures
have healed, massage the areas of the skin by the sutures regularly,
and use lotion n moisturizers.

So no prayers for now. You'll be fine. Seeya later, bionic girl.

There are indeed some dangers, and I am not glossing over them - but with a bit of luck, some faith that things will work out, some common sense and you following the instructions of your doctor, you'll be fine.

All the best.

Your cousin, Bobbie
