I am about to shock you all because I have done something that none of you would ever suspect of me. In years past, sometimes I would get good and smashed on beer and legal drugs and start writing. I've recently found more stories lurking on my hard drive that I had no idea I had written. I thought that "Houston, We Have A Problem" was a fluke, but after finding these others, I wonder what else is hidden on my drive that I have no knowledge of?

This is quite a conundrum because the last story I wrote was before January 30th of this year. I no longer drink or do any drugs that would intoxicate me to previous levels. Will I ever write again?

I can sort of relate

In a previous existence I used to be a reasonably good computer programmer (that was what they called it in those days. See how ancient I am?). Although we didn't used to drink silly all the time I knew people who did - and it didn't prevent them doing their jobs - mostly.

I do remember occasions when we'd been to the pub at lunchtime to celebrate something or other and come back to the office to carry on writing code. Some of the code I wrote those times was often the best quality I could ever manage - and I can assure you, I never wrote crap.

Fortunately for my liver, I was never in a position where my talents depended on alcohol consumption, and I always made sure that everything was double-checked when one of those episodes happened.

So, I would say, yes, what you did is possible, but it's also possible that you can write better when you are sober/drug-free. Why not try it?
