Crossing the Pacific, Google-style...

From the company that once advised people asking for driving directions between Europe and the US to "Swim across the Atlantic Ocean", try entering these searches into Google Maps and watch out for some rather suspicious looking directions...

From: Japan To: China (Step 43)
From: Seattle To: Sydney (the suspicious direction appears thrice!)
From: Seattle To: Beijing (both modes of water transport)

Apparently it works for a lot of trans-Pacific routes - but sadly they haven't reimplemented the very long swim on the other side of the globe :(

I dunno about you, but...

I don't think I'm up to ANY of those Kayak trips... Though, the REST of the places visited sound interesting.

Kanji road signs

It's trying to follow those Kanji road signs that would worry me. I've seen (pictures of) Japanese highways, getting from there to there would be frightening if you didn't know where to go (and I've driven in LA, NY and NoVa).

Well the Kanji may be okay

but I do not know a lick of their alphabet. I talked to a Japanese American and she says if one can handle the Kanji, one can be about 60 percent comfortable going around Japan. But since my Kanji is not the best either, it can be an adventure. Ah, the joys of traveling in a foreign country.

And yet...

...the Mountain View girls and boys can't seem to figure out how to get from Japan to South Korea. ^^;
