She's re-injured the same leg she injured last year, perhaps worse as she is in some pain.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.

At the vet. He thinks it is

At the vet. He thinks it is the ACL. Exam under anesthesia is going to be ~$300. surgery if needed will be more. She's been in a lot of pain most of the night. Such a good-natured dog, though. No snapping or growling while she got poked and prodded. The vet said poodles are like that, patient and friendly. I'll post more later.

My vet found the same thing

My vet found the same thing but just by feeling the leg and watching him walk. But my vet has twenty years experience. It is costing about ~$450.00 for the surgery including anesthesia. Luckily no pain and he still zooms around at top speed but on three legs. He is actually more active now and has lost weight. Dodger is eating normally even and the only thing he could not do at first was bark when he tore it because he thought he could not bark (lol).

No Surgery needed

This is an experienced vet, he's older than I am. He's decided that Cuddles does not need surgery, some cortisone for a few weeks and reduced activity for a few months. Vet costs are MUCH higher in California than elsewhere in the country, I don't know why. This is going to run about $400 or more with medication and followups. My brother had the cruciate ligament surger done on his dog a few years ago and it ran about $2500 dollars, 'course that was for a large dog.

I'll be going to pick up Cuddles around four o'clock this afternoon, they want to keep her till she's fully awake.

Erin

Good news indeed!

That's good that you can bring her home, care at the vets can really pile on the bill. Don't suppose you have a university with a veterinary teaching hospital close, do you? I used to live near one of the better ones in the country, and it was possible to get better rates on things than at the local vets.

I like poodles, all but the really small (toy) ones. They are smart dogs, very well-mannered and easy to train, and very empathetic companions.

Loyalty - Thy name is dog

Reminds me of a saying I read once, along the lines of this: Remember, the worst man in the world has a dog who loves him. (No reflection on you, Erin!)

I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.

is okay. I prefer cats even if they are slowly destroying my house or possessions - Izzy smashed an antique tea pot on friday, a gift from my late mother - but I've had two cocker spaniels as well - they just ate things, like shoes and furniture.

I had cats for twenty years

erin's picture

Even though I'm allergic to cats. My two oldest, 20 and 19, had kidney failure and I had to say goodbye to them four years ago. I gave Rocky, the young male, away when I moved in with my Mom. Cuddles, the dog, I inherited from a neighbor when he passed away a few weeks after Mom did. She's wonderful company.

Right now, she's sleeping in her crate. The vet says I have to restrict her activity for the next two weeks while her leg heals. This is the best way. She's fine with the crate as long as she can see me while she's in it. Going to get interesting as she gets used to being alone in the house, in the crate, when I have to go out.

JAIL

Dogs hate the crate just about as much as the vet. It is not just the dog who suffers but us also from the constant crying at least that is what my dogs do.

As long as she can see me, that is. :)

This is embarassing

This is a bit embarassing, but when I first read the title of the post my elderly eyes showed their weakness and I read it as "Talking Dog to Vet". My first thought was "that would make diagnosis a lot easier since the dog could tell the vet what was wrong." Then I read the post.(blush) Ah well.
