Not having been a member on Bigcloset for that long, I wonder if anyone can tell me has there ever been a vote to find out what readers here consider to be the best ever T.G story published here on Bigcloset ?

Best ever?

I've been around for quite a few years, and while I have seen many contests for seasons, or type, I don't recall ever seeing one for "Best ever". That would be quite hard, as there are so many stories, and so many types, and so many authors and so many sites.

There have been a lot of posts as to favorite stories, and recommended stories, and things like that.

There's no such thing

It is all subjective. No story is everyone's favorite...there are some that have been read more than any others based on number of reads, but that would be the closest measure I think.

Welcome to BC!!

Shoes

I think it could be said that most agree that "Shoes" by Heather Rose Brown is a must read for not just TG folks, but for allies and those totally in the dark about any TG stuff.

I agree about 'Shoes'

I said at the time, words to the effect that this story should be compulsory reading for all involved professionally in TG, whether in counselling or otherwise. I'd have to think long and hard about whether or not its my favourite story - but it's certainly very near the top at least.

I've just re-read it (for about the tenth time) and I'm in danger of flooding the living room with my tears.

I wish something like this had been about when I was a kid; then maybe I could have tried explaining me to my parents and saved other people, especially a frustrated partner and her family, so much heartache.

I would have a list

And as one comment said it is my list, and off the top of my head. Your list could be different:

Side Effects and Complications, Altered Faits: The Fall to Grace, The Women's Confrence and Killer all from Julie.

Replacement Bride by Pyrite (Paul 1964)

The Flower of Klinosh (no longer available)

The Acadamy by Morpheus (at FM)

For a Girl by O2BXX (at FM)

Trees for Two, NYPD Pink and Girl for a Spell by Ellie Daubler

My Cherrie Amor by Angela Raush

Diety Arms: Bridget

Sarah's Magic Crayons, The Rose, Allie in Wonderland and The Easter Story by Maggie O Malley (Maggie the Kitten)

The Female of the Species by Scott Ramsey

The Professor's Ovid Series (at FM)

Julie O's Juliverse series

Polymereman by Pru Walker

The Marshal High series by Lanie Lee

Chess Prodogy and The Hyperboard Wars by Daniel J

As mentioned above: Shoes

And Tooting My Own Horn: Santa's Gift to the World, The Death and Life of Maxmillion Kagen, Broken Glass and Victor and the Witch (note warning). The last two were with Jenna Hitch.

As I said, this is off the top of my head. I couldn't remember the title of a story involving a spirit that was a one trick pony by Morpheus(?), one by Maggie the Kitten that involved receiving a globe, one of three boys doing a prnak by the Professor(?) and one of four boys going back in time by Crystal and others.

Best written?

Gotta be, 'Spin Cycle' by Liobhan.

Totally undeserved, since I was channelling Gertrude...

...Stein at the time, so it's all her fault. I do have a sequel, Jasper, but keep haring off after other projects in real life. It's about half-done, so I suppose might be well-begun, but I keep having magnificent ideas to fold into the story cycle (which is what comes from reading the newspapers) and then have to go back to see how the ideas mesh into the other stories, reworking what's there in Jaspar already so it doesn't fall out of synch, and have invented the perpetual motion machine in my spare time, or at least it shows no signs of alowing down yet.

Cheers,

Tough Call

There are a lot of stories on Big Closet, covering a lot of area as far as subgenres of TG Fiction go. You're likely to get as many different answers to this as there are authors, though there are a few stories that are fairly universally loved, such as Shoes (though I'm ashamed to admit it, I STILL haven't gotten around to reading Shoes myself -- I really need to do that some time soon.)

A few of my favorites would probably be:
My Cherie Amore (Angela Rasch) -- I first read this story back when it had its original "The Tiger and the Princess" style ending, and thought it was nicely done, but after she extended it, it jumped a long way up in my "favorite stories" list.

Blue Moon (Donna Lamb) -- TECHNICALLY a fanfic of "The Devil in Drag" as created by Lanie Lee, "Blue Moon" has got to be both one of the funniest and one of the sweetest stories on the site, in my opinion, as well as being incredibly well written.

Bridesmaid (Miss Jessica) -- This story to me is a good example of the idea that TG fiction doesn't have to be about actually becoming female in order to be good. The main character is a gay male who has no intention of ever transitioning all the way to female, yet his fight between his gender expression and others' views and expectations of him still makes for a very compelling story. It also has one of my favorite endings of any story on the site.

Of course, there are a ton of other stories here that I love, and many that I think will be truly great when they are finished, but I was trying to stick to only complete stories, since a judgment on overall quality can't be made if a story isn't complete.

Thanks Melanie and Shalimar

Writing for me reflects four decades of parenting and years of training for long distance running. Children can ask, "Are we there yet?" every five minutes all the way from the Midwest to the Canadian Rockies. That's wonderful preparation for responding to a persistent muse. Marathon running teaches us that accomplishments are easy -- once the months and months of training have been completed.

My Cherie Amour evolved over several years after a fitful beginning. I did extensive research to write that novel, because I was totally unaware of the intersexed when I started. It was my belief during writing it that studying the plight of the interesexed would contain a key to self-understanding. It helped.

After I posted the story the first time I received a heart-rendering e-mail that accused me of ruining her life. She said that I had portrayed such a loving family (in contrast to hers) that she no longer wished to live. Of course she left no return address or means to communicate. I pulled all my stories and stayed away from TG writing for almost a year before I resolved that problem as something over which I had no control.

Several years after I came back to TG writing I realized the story twins deserved a real resolution. The additional chapters' context is a homage to the Wizard of Oz, although you'd have to know it to see it.

I'm honored to be mentioned in the same breath with Donna Lamb. Her current story appears to be headed toward the top of my list as is Sue Brown's soccer story. As they are both serials, that's saying a lot for me.

I also would add Erin's Sledgehammer and Jenny Walker's No Half Measures to a list of top stories.
