Just finished "Darkest Hour" and have watched " The Battle of Brittan" more than once. It seems to me that I have read stories on this site where children of that time were often shipped off to the country. The name of the Author escapes me. Does anyone remember the stories?

I suppose I could be a smarty pants and say Bedknobs and Broomsticks from the Mouse, but that would not be nice. I don't recall any other tales though.

Narnia

C.S. Lewis' series The Chronicles of Narnia features Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie. The series spans 1900-1949. The first published book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe tells the story of how the four children were sent to the countryside manor of Professor Kirke in 1940. Their mother Helen remained in London. Their father was an RAF pilot presumably lost over France, but eventually was reunited with the family in 1942 .

While at the manor, in playing a game of hide and seek, the youngest child Lucy gets lost hiding in the back of a Wardrobe which opens onto the magical land of Narnia. The series lasted for seven books and a BBC series as well as three theatrical movies.

Several folks have done 'fan-fictions' dedicated to the spirt of the books. I compiled a series of my stories that explore the realistic side of being a transgender male-to-female child in the 1940s in the setting of being transported to Narnia. You can find it here:

I know which one you mean but for the life of me can’t remember the title. It’s an alt reality where the Germans have actually landed in England and the kids escape to Cornwall.

Like Mads, I can recall something about an evacuee who did a bit of time travelling, I shall have a bit of a look see in the archives for more info.

UPDATE

Found it!!

Our dear friend Gabi wrote "At Aunt Greta's" in many chapters and well worth a read.

Check it out.

Something peculiar?

Evacuees and time travel also occur in "Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children".
Another similar story was "From Time to Time" (based on "The Chimneys of Green Knowe").

Yet another story!

Yes, I have a story plotted along these lines which I have been too busy to even start properly...
A family with 3 children Margaret, Vivian and Annabelle - father on active service, mother just recruited to code-cracking at Bletchley Park. The children are sent away to stay at Rowansleigh (pronounced Rolly of course) Manor with Lady Hallet, but on the way the driver says that she is expecting 3 girls - Vivian is a boy. "Lady Hallet hates boys and won't have one in the house". Some quick change is needed to keep the family together, but there are lasting consequences for Vivian.
If only I had the time!
