Sometimes it is fun to change my name just because I can
and sometimes scrolling down to the Js on author list seems such a faff.

Lots of Names

There are at least a half dozen "stage names" for me out there and I am not apologetic about that. There are people out there that will hurt you if they can, so you must protect your identity if you can. These days most of those old names have been abandoned because those who are kind and loving have taken their place. It is not hard to get my real name out of me though. Still very confused about why I transitioned and have lived that way for around 16 years. It was very clear early on that clubbing and street parties are very dangerous and lots of folk like us die for our stupidity. Returning to life as it was is not possible and having tried it is clear that there is only one way for me now.

Name change?

Is this an announcement that you want me to change your author listing?

I can do that, but I don't want to have to do that too often, so I do it only at a specific request.

I can even do it so that Just.lovewriting is listed as a synonym for Ann Other.

Hugs,
Erin

Ann Other

Hi Erin, thanks for looking out for me.

It started as a bit of fun when I discovered that I could change name in my account section.

If it is not too much trouble I would like to make the change permanent for author listing as well.

Best wishes

It's almost a rite of passage around here

laika's picture

I've noticed several authors over the years sign on to this site with some spur-of-the-moment handle, and then change their name to one like a girl or woman might have; as if getting comfortable with the idea of a female persona. Ann Other is obviously a pun, but yours embraces both belonging and otherness, so "Yay, Paradox"; And who doesn't love a good pun? In the 1970's punk scene it was almost de rigeur to give yourself a silly pun name like Chuck Wagon, Penny Loafer or that amazing goddess of otherness, Poly Styrene (X-Ray Spex)...

Anyway Hi, Ann. I'm glad to meet you and glad you're here!

I've never disclosed my actual given name here, I don't even like hearing it.

Punk -- that is spooky

Hi Veronica

name change was a spur of the moment thing, initially to save scrolling to the middle of the author list. I had not intended to purposely use a feminine name but it seemed a good idea to have a fun name as much of what I write makes me, and hopefully others, smile.

Away from the internet I've had the same gender neutral name since my part-time early teens.

Earlier this month I finished reading the last of the books written by the punk poet John Cooper Clarke and Patti Smith so your comments and knowledge of punk seemed so spooky. Next life I'm coming back as transpunk Ann Other, watch out for me.
Best wishes
Ann
