Times are changing. While checking out Cover Girl makeup I found this interesting tutorial on how to use makeup... he has pretty nails too.

Cover Girl did society a boost by using a person that would have been "controversial" just a few years ago. Progress and acceptance are good things.

What are your thoughts on this?

Garrett Hahn shares his tips to contouring and highlighting your face, using the COVERGIRL TruBlend Contour Palettes and Highlighting Palettes.

I learned something new on-line

"Do not let mascara dry in between coats." -- I didn't even think about this before. Tip is from the Maybelline web site!

Gender Expression and the Make-up Industry

Over the last 6 years, I've notice a lot of beauty vloggers and make-up artists of a more gender diverse background coming to the forefront. Though many have been around in the early 2000's some even earlier, a growing number from Gigi Gorgeous, James Charles to Jeffree Star has risen to prominence with the rise of beauty vlogging. There are many others that attend events such as Beautycon.

The make-up store Sephora added makeup classes for the trans community last year. I've attended some of their make-up classes as far back as 2013. For Covergirl to feature a beauty vlogger is less groundbreaking and feels more like pandering than it would have say in 2016. Better late than never, right?*

Hugs,
Leila

*Wow, I totally forgot that James Charles did work with CoverGirl in 2016... Okay, nevermind... :)

Missing parts

Why is it that all the make-up tutorials that I see online always tend to missed the first parts of a good makeup job "preparation"

Preparation cleaning and moisturising your skin as the better you do this the longer your makeup will last.

a real commitment

Lee, I checked your link and it explains Lolita clearly. I've seen a couple mini-documentaries a few years ago. The preciseness of Lolita/Brolita takes dedication; not a casual & occasional endeavor.

RE: "Preparation cleaning and moisturising your skin..."
--- what's your thoughts on makeup removal? I guess cold creme is old school.

Lots of training and on hands practice

She did a really beautiful job of applying the different colors, blends, base, powders, etc. She also had an instructor in the art of makeup. This isn't learning by trial and error by a long shot. The gotchu is the price of all the products she is hyping. Anyone besides me read six hundred plus in cosmetics? If it was a one time thing, not a problem but even if taking the time to look beautiful every day wasn't the deal breaker. Cosmetics do have a shelf life no matter what brand or what it is. Eyeliner and mascara are the two worst with the shortest shelf life. Both loose their smooth applications, before turning into lumps.

Years back, all the girls were going insane over one of the makeup artists at Southern Comfort. They informed me even the Hollywood makeup people couldn't hold a candle to the girl. I wasn't there for any of those years, but all good friends, I believed them. Especially after they showed me pics of afterwards. Like any other trade, makeup is a skill. We can all do it but how good are we? Anyone can drive a truck. Doesn't mean I want to be out there on the road with everyone.

Ladies, practice, practice, practice, and ask questions. As the video showed, there is more to it than taking a sponge and a brush and turning one's self into the next starlet.
I wish everyone the best.
always
